The newest edition of Benchmarking Infrastructure Development finds a strong correlation between regulatory reforms governing #PPPs and infrastructure investment.?Even though #PPP reforms have a strong link with increased investment levels in transport, energy, water, and information and communication technology, regulation is only one ingredient for a successful PPP ecosystem. Advancing from one successful standalone PPP project to a sustainable program of infrastructure investments also depends on economic and political stability, public sector commitment, mature financial markets, effective risk allocation, and a government and partners with long-term vision, among other factors. To boost renewable energy in India's #TamilNadu, IFC is working with the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board and Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation to structure a pumped storage #hydropower project as a #PPP in the town of Velimalai. IFC will advise on a competitive process to select an experienced developer to raise private finance, construct, operate, and maintain the project. Tamil Nadu is a leading state in India in #renewableenergy capacity. With the capacity of 1100 MW, the project aims to provide additional power during peak demand and supports the state’s plan to generate 50% of its energy through renewable energy sources by 2030. This requires adequate energy storage to provide flexibility in balancing intermittent solar and wind power generation capacity. ? The PPP will be supported by Japan - The Government of Japan which is focused on quality infrastructure to boost economic growth and address climate change.?????? ?? Exciting news for #LaoPDR! The IFC Public-Private Partnerships has signed an advisory agreement with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to upgrade Luang Prabang International Airport (LPIA) through a #PPP: https://lnkd.in/gJwyggV4 This project aims to enhance safety, efficiency, and capacity, allowing LPIA to serve over 4 million international and 500,000 domestic passengers annually. As a key tourist gateway, improving LPIA is vital for boosting tourism and connectivity in the region. Prior to the pandemic, tourism generated significant revenue for the Lao economy, and with forecasts of 4.6 million international tourists in 2024, this upgrade is timely. Thomas Lubeck, IFC Regional Manager, emphasized that robust infrastructure investments are crucial for enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the tourism sector. With IFC's expertise, this project will set a high benchmark for future PPP initiatives in the country. The government of #Uzbekistan hosted a bidders conference in #Türkiye for the Fergana Hospital #PPP, an IFC-supported project.
