Public-Private Partnerships (#PPPs) are driving #Jamaica forward! ????? In 2018, IFC was the transaction advisor to the Government of Jamaica for the successful 25-year concession to operate, expand and modernize the Norman Manley International Airport. The project resulted in the creation of jobs and has positively impacted many small business owners, such as Roger Thompson, from Kingston City Guided Tours. This fruitful #PPP motivated the government to replicate the mechanism in other sectors with the objective of improving the quality of public services for the Jamaican people. But instead of going transaction-by-transaction, IFC designed a programmatic approach for PPPs that will enhance the country's infrastructure and enable private capital to be invested where the needs are greatest. A new milestone! Vinte is a Mexican vertically integrated sustainable land developer and homebuilder with a clear focus on profitability. With over 21 years of experience, Vinte develops sustainable housing projects aimed at improving residents' quality of life, for which the company has received multiple international and national awards. Throughout its history, it has developed more than 60,000 homes across 6 states in Mexico, primarily in the central region, achieving high customer loyalty and broad brand recognition in the areas where it operates. ? Vinte has built more than 50,000 homes and is the homebuilder with the largest number of EDGE-certified green homes worldwide (14,165 homes as of June 2024). IFC has accompanied Vinte in this success story since 2007. Last week, we announced the most recent step in this joint success story: the signing of a US$301 million financing package to support the Vinte Green PCG Project. This initiative aims to expand access to affordable, energy-efficient housing in Mexico, addressing the country's housing deficit and contributing to its climate goals. ? Our investment includes an “A” loan totaling US58 million to support Vinte′s acquisition of Servicios Corporativos Javer S.A.B. de C.V. (Javer) and fund post?integration capital expenditures and working capital needs. Additionally, ourmobilization efforts are expected to attract US243 million in private sector funds, enhancing the credit profile of the financing package and enabling Vinte to access the local bond market. ? Over 150 participants from more than 30 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in Panama on October 9 and 10 for an unprecedented workshop, entitled "Strategic Collaboration to Maximize Development." This was the first time ever that IFC LAC and IDB Invest legal teams jointly organized and co-sponsored an event of this nature, with lawyers from 47 regional law firm across the Americas as well as three international firms who partner with IFC and IDB Invest in delivering their mission in the region. ? Central to this forum was the strategic and increasingly stronger collaboration between both institutions, aimed at identifying and implementing coordinated solutions to pressing global development issues. ? The workshop served as a platform for knowledge and perspectives exchange on the region’s challenges and opportunities. Over two intense days, participants discussed through different panels and round tables the trending priorities in the region and what IFC and IDB Invest are doing to address them, such as latest trends in developmental finance, the evolution of integrity and compliance requirements, debt securities transactions, and mobilization initiatives. All themes that are fully aligned with IFC’s objectives and that will help IFC have a greater regional impact. ? Participants also had the chance of hearing from the Head of the Panama Stock Exchange,?discuss AI innovation, the role of DEI in development, and learn about the Panama Canal’s history. Regarding DEI, IFC’s legal department showcased how it is proactively addressing important diversity gaps in LAC. ? Additionally, the event fostered networking and strengthened relationships among professionals supporting IFC’s and IDB Invest’s work.
