关于我们
Telepresence has been initially driven by the need of obtaining information and to act in environments that for humans are extremely difficult to reach, or extremely dangerous to operate in, such as space, and high radiation disaster zones. Telesurgery reflects another need, of a human expert, to perform a highly specialized operation at a remote location. Gradually, telepresence is making its impact in most sectors of the life, with a promise to reduce cost in offering a broad range of services, to meet societal needs. It already allows remote operators to act as if present in a remote cabin/control room, pilots to operate drones, specialized workers to operate heavy equipment, to drive agricultural machines, or drive surface vehicles. COVID-19 has brought telemedicine to a new level that would perhaps take more years to obtain acceptance – many of the routine ‘visits’ to primary physicians are now over video-conferencing tools, a simple form of telepresence. Telemedicine is only an example, other forms of telepresence have also accelerated to face restrictions in travel, access to the workplace, etc.
