At the Illinois Environmental Council's Environmental Leadership Dinner last week, we celebrated decision-makers who demonstrated leadership through strong environmental policy initiatives. Below are some takeaways. ?? ? Policy is fun! Collaboration, education, and advocacy require a lot of hard work, and celebrating the positive impact of these efforts surrounded by hundreds of enviros is both motivating and rewarding. ?? Our movement is huge! Whether you're a birder or a bicyclist, passionate about reducing waste in our environment or passing policy that increases access to equitable transportation options, there's a place for you! Many of the environmental issues we face, like climate change, are hugely intersectional. From advancing the equitable transition to clean energy to reducing the effects of the climate crisis through nature-based solutions, every voice and idea makes a difference. ?? Youth and young professionals are part of this movement! Not only did members of the YP Board volunteer at the dinner, but board member Jaclyn Carmichael, MPA helped present the Milestone Achievement Award to State Rep. Curtis Tarver! Joining groups like the IEC Young Professionals Board or attending our events is a great way to start building your own connections and sharing ideas that will make this movement stronger. ?? One of our signature events is Yoga at the Beach! We were thrilled Brii W. (@peaceofbrii on Instagram) came back to lead our yoga flow at Montrose Beach in August. It was great to see Illinois Environmental Council staff and board members, as well as new friends, join us for a restful and mindful Saturday morning. Just like your yoga practice, how you choose to move through the environmental work in your life is personal, but every choice has meaning and purpose, and leads to something incredible, especially in our work to fight the climate crisis.?We hope you’ll join us at our next event, happening in October!
