As U.S. colleges and universities manage the effects of the higher education demographic cliff, international enrollments will become more important than ever. The number of international students in 44 states increased year-over-year from the 2022/23 to 2023/24 school year, with many states seeing high double-digit growth rates. In contrast, domestic student enrollments declined in the majority of states. With fewer Americans earning advanced degrees, employers will struggle to fill critical positions. What role will international higher education play in addressing future U.S. workforce needs? Our latest white paper, co-published with inSpring, "Connecting Industry & Education: International Talent as a Solution to the U.S. Labor Shortage," explores this question. Last month, the University of Arizona and IDP Taiwan collaborated on a virtual event to promote the University of Arizona Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing. Dr. Krishna Muralidharan provided an engaging lecture on cutting-edge insights into the future of semiconductors, career opportunities in a high-growth industry, and innovation and knowledge for the future. The event was well-attended and represents a best practice for institutions looking to promote specific programs. Students were excited about the opportunity to engage directly with a faculty member and learn about the advanced research taking place at the University of Arizona.
