Back in September, I shared the exciting news about receiving the 2024 Outstanding Service Award from the KANSAS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (KEMA) for my work organizing the Integrated Emergency Management Course (IEMC) training in Emmitsburg, Maryland (National Disaster & Emergency Management University). Last night, I was honored to have Jillian Rodrigue, KEMA President, join us at the Belton City Council meeting to formally present the award. It was a privilege to celebrate this recognition surrounded by my current colleagues and leadership in Belton. This award reflects the incredible teamwork and collaboration during my time with Johnson County, KS, and I’m grateful for the continued support from peers across the state. Thank you, Jillian, and KEMA for this special moment!

One of the best parts of being President is elevating the incredible work of emergency managers across Kansas. Today, we honored Morgan Hunter, KCEM as the KEMA Outstanding Service Award recipient! Morgan has been instrumental in helping the metro and surrounding counties understand and utilize the Orion software for damage assessment. He took the time to understand what that system can and cannot do and is extremely skilled delivering Damage Assessment training for the users. He took the initiative to learn IPAWS Message Design Dashboard and has educated others on how to utilize the tool. He is creating messages ahead of time to be more efficient sending messages out to the public. He also helped Claire Canaan with the Integrated Emergency Management Course by teaching a course section, and assisted players within the exercise portion. Johnson County, KS Government
