Other suburban agencies have recently experienced daytime car burglaries, where purses or other valuables left in plain view are stolen from vehicles shortly after the owner walks away. They enter the vehicle through unlocked doors or will smash a window to quickly grab the item off the seat. These thefts can occur at fitness centers, daycares and park facilities. While it is easy to get distracted or be in a hurry while out and about, it is important to remember to keep your valuables secure and out of plain view, especially when leaving them in your car. Hide items like purses, wallets, phones, tablets, etc. or take them with you when possible. Hide it. Lock it. Keep it. ?????? #LockItOrLoseIt #VehicleSafety

#DidYouKnow Huntley has a group of amazing volunteers that have been instrumental in the success of more than 130 Village events in the last 4 years by donating over 4,500 hours of their time. They donate their time and talents by providing services such as traffic control, command post support, registration, set up...and so much more we could not do without them! They choose to volunteer selflessly and without expectation of being recognized or rewarded. So we were pleased to host an appreciation event for them recently and enjoyed celebrating their contributions to the village, as well as the sense of camaraderie and friendship they have created within the volunteer groups and with the Police Department and other Village of Huntley employees. Thank you, volunteers, for all you do for us and our community! #Gratitude #VolunteerAppreciation

Every day, more than 130 Americans die after overdosing on opioids. As the prescription opioid epidemic continues to worsen, Northwestern Medicine is hosting the Huntley Police Department as collection sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused opioids and other prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for misuse of medications. Unused medications thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused, or illegally sold. If they are flushed, they can contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment. Additionally, Naloxone training and distribution provided by Northwestern Medicine will be available at this collection site. Please note, sharp and liquid material will not be accepted, and #TakeBackDay is for community members, not for commercial organizations. This event is available from 10 am – 2 pm on Saturday, October 26 at: Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital Main Entrance 10400 Haligus Road Huntley, Illinois To find other collection sites near you, visit: www.DEATakeBack.com For more information on prescription drug misuse and proper disposal, visit: www.dea.gov www.getsmartaboutdrugs.gov www.justthinktwice.gov #DEA #SafeDisposal #SecureYourMeds
