?? Congratulations to Laura Robbins, DSW, the 2024 Wholeness of Life Award Honoree! The HealthCare Chaplaincy Network gives the Wholeness of Life Award annually to a Hospital for Special Surgery employee who, in the treatment of others, demonstrates respect for human beings as whole persons, promoting health in body, mind and spirit. We’re proud to share that this year’s recipient is Laura Robbins, Senior Vice President, Education Institute. Laura joined HSS in 1989 and throughout this time has shown tremendous dedication to interrelated care of mind, body and spirit for the patients we serve, the entire HSS organization, our medical trainees and the general community with musculoskeletal conditions. Her contributions to the care and respect of whole persons are immense and enduring. In her tenure at HSS, she has built an Education Institute from the ground up based on a shared leadership model. From the beginning, she recognized the need for caring for the whole patient, which included not just clinical care, but whole person care – which includes education, outreach and training.

Hospital for Special Surgery's Education Institute was well represented at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN.? Joseph Engelmann presented “Bridging the Trust Gap: Implementing Innovative Email Strategies to Improve Public Health Communication in a Pandemic Era,” and addressed the significant challenges the pandemic posed to public health communication, particularly its impact on public trust in health information. The presentation outlined how EI strategically evaluated audience needs and adapted to effectively grow and engage audiences, foster a sense of community, and rebuild trust after this challenging period. Linda Roberts, LCSW,?presented “Building Trust through Tailored Programs for Older Adults,” sharing innovative programming aimed at reducing inequities and addressing feelings of marginalization among older adults in the post-pandemic landscape.
