  • On this day, annually, Brazil observes #BlackConsciousnessDay, which commemorates the life and legacy of Zumbi dos Palmares, a leader of the country's resistance against slavery. The day serves as a powerful reminder of the fight for freedom, equality, and the recognition of Black identity in Brazil. It was established in 1971 by activists to honor the contributions of Afro-Brazilian culture and raise awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by the Black community. Today, we pause to reflect on the strength, resilience, and cultural richness of Brazil’s Black community, as well as that of our Black communities world-wide. Let us use this day as a reminder of the importance of knowing our local, national, and global histories, and honor those who have fought for equality. #HoganLovells #DEI #DiversityEquityAndInclusion

  • Congratulations to Sanchita Bose, JD, MPH on being named 2024 Young Lawyer of the Year by Bar Association of the District of Columbia! ?? Sanchita assists clients with bringing innovative medical devices to the U.S. market and tackling regulatory challenges throughout the various stages of a product’s life cycle. Her areas of expertise include providing strategic advice on premarket submissions to help clients obtain FDA clearance or approval, guiding companies on post-market compliance and enforcement matters, performing regulatory due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, and assisting with other corporate transactions. Sanchita's background in physiology and neurobiology, together with her prior work in health policy and the pharmaceutical industry, provide a strong foundation to support cross-practice matters. She uses this intersectional experience to adeptly navigate the complex legal implications and regulatory landscapes of emerging technologies, such as combination products, novel cell, tissue, and gene therapies, artificial intelligence, and digital health. Sanchita received her J.D. with a concentration in Health Law from the George Washington University (“GW”) Law School and MPH in Health Policy and Management from GW’s Milken Institute School of Public Health. During law school, she helped spearhead the Health Law Initiative as a Kahan Health/FDA Law Fellow. She was also part of the Rising for Justice Housing Advocacy and Litigation Clinic where she promoted housing stability for District residents and successfully defended underrepresented individuals in eviction proceedings before D.C. Superior Court. At Hogan Lovells, Sanchita remains committed to her passion for pro bono work and maintains an active practice that includes representing and advocating on behalf of domestic violence survivors. Most recently, she was recognized on the D.C. Courts’ Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll list, with High Honors. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Sanchita! #HoganLovells #LegalDiversity #YoungLawyerOfTheYear

  • Hogan Lovells celebrates Diwali ? Last week, our UK Hindu, Sikh and Jain Network, a sub-committee of our UK Multicultural Network had the pleasure of bringing together colleagues, clients, and friends for a Diwali celebration in the London office. Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, was celebrated with great enthusiasm as we came together to honour the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. This auspicious occasion, which is observed by millions across India, South Asia, and the world, is a time for family, community, and cultural expression. Our event embraced the spirit of Diwali through a vibrant mix of traditions—featuring cultural performances, delicious food, and warm conversations. We kicked off the event with some welcoming words from Michael Davison, Deputy CEO, and the organising committee. The evening was a wonderful opportunity for our Hogan Lovells community to connect, celebrate, and share in the joy of this significant festival. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, and to those who contributed to making the celebration a memorable and meaningful event. We hope the spirit of Diwali continues to inspire us all, and we look forward to future gatherings that bring us closer together as a community. #LegalDiversity #Diwali #HoganLovells

  • Congratulations to Jacqui Rhule-Dagher ?????, Associate in our complex commercial litigation team, for being named #2 in the 2024 Outstanding 100 Role Model Future Leader List—her second consecutive year being ranked! The Outstanding 100 Role Model Future Leader List is put together by INvolve - The Inclusion People. Involve is a consultancy and global network that enables leaders and change-makers to build more successful and empowering organisations where everyone can thrive. Involve is also responsible for compiling the Empower, Heroes and Enable Role Model Lists. Jacqui has also made history, as she is the first person to feature in Involve’s Top 5 of the Outstanding Future Leader Role Model List and the Empower Future Leader Role Model List. The Empower Role Model Lists showcase business leaders who are breaking down barriers at work and endeavoring to smash the ceiling for people of colour across the world. Jacqui’s inclusion within the Outstanding list celebrates her commitment to raising awareness around intersectionality and advocacy for underrepresented communities. In October 2023, Jacqui founded the LoveALL Festival, in honour of National Inclusion Week, which celebrates authentic workplace expression and the firm’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. She also reverse mentors a partner and mentors trainee solicitors, addressing concerns surrounding LGBTQIA inclusion. Away from Hogan Lovells, Jacqui serves on The Law Society's LGBTQ+ Solicitors Network Steering Committee, where she ensures that LGBTQ+ lawyers can thrive within the profession. Jacqui is also the founder of Legally Lesbians. This initiative involves lesbians in the legal industry/in-house lawyers writing about their careers and reflecting on the importance of lesbian visibility. The bios then form an article which is published by DIVA Magazine. Her media appearances, which include Bloomberg Radio, The Guardian and City A.M., inspire diverse individuals to pursue a career in law. In April 2024, Jacqui won the Diversity Champion of the Year award at the DIVA Awards; and, in September 2024, she won the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Leader of the Year award at the IFLR Legal Benchmarking Group Social Impact Awards. #OutRoleModels24 #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #LegalDiversity

  • This week, we observe Transgender Awareness Week, a vital time to amplify the voices and experiences of transgender individuals. In the face of increasing anti-trans legislation, it’s more important than ever to stand in solidarity and advocate for equality and respect. Transgender awareness is not just about visibility; it’s about understanding, acceptance, and allyship. This week, we recommit to fostering inclusivity in our workplaces and communities to create the space for our trans colleagues, friends, and neighbors to live as their authentic selves. For more information on #TransgenderAwarenessWeek and #TransgenderDayOfRemembrance (coming up on the 20th of November), visit the Human Rights Campaign website at... https://lnkd.in/eaVsvZRP #HoganLovells #DEI #DiversityEquityAndInclusion

"What we found is that at least for a lot of Black women in law, they are working in companies or working at law firms where they might be the only one, or one of a group of very few people," commented Nikki Ogun, Global Regulatory Senior Associate. "So it helps people to expand that network that they’ve got, and interact with people who are in a similar position to them, but who might not work at the same firm." Nikki Ogun, recently spoke with the Legally Speaking Podcast ?? and shared why it was important to co-found the Black Women’s Law Network, provided advice for people who want to get into the legal sector or are starting their careers, and also touched on her involvement with our Hogan Lovells REAHL Network.

  • Congratulations to Philadelphia associate, Elijah Freeman, on being selected as a fellow for the National Bar Association Associate Advancement Academy for Excellence! Among Elijah's proudest achievements during his time at the firm is his involvement representing Indivior as it prepared for a federal jury trial with 70 witnesses and over 3,000 exhibits in a novel antitrust product-hop case alleging that the development of a product innovation for Suboxone was anti-competitive. A fellowship with the NBA's Academy is a competitive position focusing on the advancement of associates within their first three years of practice. This program was created to specifically support Black attorneys in big law by focusing on educational, networking, mentoring, and pro bono opportunities. Congratulations on this achievement, Elijah! #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #DEI #NationalBarAssociation
