I’ve gotten used to letting technology take over many parts of my life. I can handle my banking without ever stepping foot in a branch. I do most of my shopping from my couch. And if a delivery service wants to drop off my order at 2 a.m.? I’ll be asleep, but hey, go for it. I’ve seen how technology can replace human interaction in so many areas, but I believe health care is different. It has a heart. It’s emotional, personal and complex in a way that a banking transaction just isn’t. And to truly deliver compassionate, whole-person care, it takes more than technology. It takes a human – someone with empathy, life experience and the ability to connect in a way that only a person can. The right technology doesn’t replace human care; it makes it better: - It gives clinicians more time and brain space for what really matters. Less paperwork, fewer admin tasks, more time to focus on patients. - It helps providers make better, faster decisions. Real-time data and insights that give the right information at the right time. - It makes health care easier and less frustrating for patients. Smoother scheduling, shorter wait times and more personalized care, without losing the human touch. I had a great time last week at HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition discussing how technology should serve, not replace, the patient-provider relationship. Always a pleasure sharing the stage with you, Mendel Erlenwein!

An aquanaut, a sports agent, a futurist & a human rights advisor walk into a… I mean onto a stage. Either way it was entertaining and I had a blast spending time in Vegas with some of my favorite humans talking about the work we’re all so passionate about. Thank you HIMSS for letting this bunch of boundary pushers keynote HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition. As Leigh Steinberg says, we got to see 35,000 “of our closest friends”. Bridging Healthcare Gaps with Digital Innovation Last week at HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition,?Dr.?Gina Itzikowitz, MD, AI Clinical Implementation at Audere, joined a panel discussion on?"How International Markets Are Tackling Digital Innovation and Global Health Challenges."?She shared insights on how digital health tools can expand access to care—especially in underserved communities—while emphasising the need for locally tailored adoption strategies. ??A few key takeaways: ?? AI is transforming healthcare access?– To ensure equity, AI models must be trained on diverse, locally sourced datasets to reduce bias and improve accuracy for specific populations. ?? Communication is critical?– Digital health solutions must account for local languages, slang, and cultural nuances to build trust and engagement. ?Public-private partnerships drive impact?– Collaboration between governments, startups, and healthcare providers is essential for sustainable progress. ???Scalability & sustainability matter?– Digital solutions should be designed for long-term success, not just short-term pilots. A great example of?scalable digital health innovation?is?Audere’s HealthPulse platform?- an AI-driven tool that: ?? Digitizes rapid diagnostic testing?for greater accuracy and accessibility. ?Uses?AI-powered image analysis?to enhance test interpretation. ?? Supports?real-time disease surveillance?to inform public health strategies. ?? Functions in?low-resource settings, making digital health more inclusive. As digital health continues to evolve, the key to success lies in?localisation, collaboration, and long-term impact????? Charles Aunger, Laura Macdonald, Bhanusich Chomanan

    • "A panel discussion at a conference featuring four speakers seated on stage. The panelists, two men and two women, are engaged in conversation, holding microphones. A large screen behind them displays headshots and names of speakers, along with the HIMSS logo. The background features a vibrant blue and orange abstract design. The panelists wear professional attire and have conference badges. A green plant is visible in the foreground."
  • Hosting return attendees is always a pleasure!

I went back to HIMSS after not having gone for several years. Here are a few observations : ? - The energy level at the event was pretty good/palpable. That could've been , in part, because the footprint was a bit smaller. Kind of like the bustling, crowded restaurant effect that makes it seem more appealing. ? - There were a lot of discussions about the economy, political changes, etc. This fed my addiction to all things economic/political. ? - There was surprisingly little marketing BS and booth messaging hyperbole. - The inevitable topic of AI was a bit more muted and substantive. Most of the conversations were about true use cases as opposed to hypotheticals. A very welcome change. ? - It was a bit like a family reunion. I couldn't walk 30 feet without running into someone I knew so I was perpetually late for all of my meetings. - A lot of people dislike Vegas but, sorry if this offends, it’s way better than Chicago. Easier to get into, easier to get around, better weather (of course), fewer brawls in the streets... ? So all-in-all, HIMSS is better than before. Kudos to the new leadership. ? The only negative was the wind. I should’ve flown. Instead I drove down from the Park City area to do some freeride mountain biking but the wind killed that idea. #healthcare #tradeshow #himss25 #healthcareit #ai #ehr #emr #cio #lasvegas HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition
