https://lnkd.in/eksCzrvx We recently had the privilege of hosting a site visit at the future home of the Heartland Bioworks Tech Hub, where we were joined by some incredible leaders, including Cristina Killingsworth - Acting Assistant Secretary of Economic Development?at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). The visit was a key moment in the growth of this cutting-edge innovation center, which will play a pivotal role in advancing biotechnology and workforce development in the region. A special thanks to U.S. Senator Todd Young and other distinguished guests for their support and participation in this important milestone. Their continued commitment to fostering growth in the heartland is making projects like Heartland Bioworks possible, bringing new opportunities for tech entrepreneurs, researchers, and job creators. This facility will serve as a catalyst for biotech innovation, provide access to state-of-the-art labs and resources, and create high-tech jobs in our community. It's all part of a larger vision to drive regional economic growth and ensure the Heartland remains a key player in the biotech ecosystem.

"Indiana is open for business when it comes to biotech," writes Senator Todd Young in The Indianapolis Star, highlighting the transformative and lasting impact of the CHIPS and Science Act on Indiana. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Commerce funded 12 regional “tech hubs,” with Indiana’s Heartland BioWorks receiving the largest award in the country—$51 million. "That $51 million will open the floodgates of private investment in the Hoosier State," Young writes. "The best estimates say it will spur $2.6 billion in additional economic output and create 9,000 new jobs over a decade. Some of that cash will be divvied up among promising Indiana startups. Another portion will be used to train more workers to fill those jobs." Learn more by visiting: https://lnkd.in/eRCcSpvF and read the full column below.
Read my column in The Indianapolis Star on how Indiana’s new tech hub, with support from the CHIPS and Science Act I co-wrote, will help America compete with the Chinese Communist Party on emerging tech. Scientific advancement is happening all over the country. And Indiana, in particular, is punching way above its weight when it comes to this innovative work. Our research institutions (like Purdue University, Indiana University Bloomington, and the University of Notre Dame), our private companies (Eli Lilly and Company, Corteva Agriscience, Elanco to name a few), and even our nonprofit ecosystem (AgriNovus Indiana, ARI (Applied Research Institute), and BioCrossroads) are all aligned toward creating high-paying jobs in the field of biotechnology and life sciences — the types of jobs that will give young Hoosiers exciting career options right here at home. Earlier this month, the Department of Commerce funded 12 regional “tech hubs” as part of a program our legislation created. This was an intense competition. There were 370 applicants from across the country. Indiana’s Heartland BioWorks received the largest award in the country — $51 million. That $51 million will open the floodgates of private investment in the Hoosier State. The?best estimates?say it will spur $2.6 billion in additional economic output and create 9,000 new jobs over a decade. Read more below.
