Is business really just about money? R. Edward Freeman argues that there’s more to the story. As a professor at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Freeman has spent the last 45 years researching the relationship between business and society. His conclusions point to the need for a new #narrative about business and capitalism that is not only focused on money but also on value and purpose. Freeman’s research uncovers critical questions – How can business create win-win solutions for themselves and society? What business models are the most ethical? Where can companies start on a purpose-driven journey? I spoke to the HBS Institute for Business in Global Society about the role of business in this election. Offering time off to vote is now table stakes. In many states, it's the law. There are many nonpartisan actions business can take in the next months to both promote democracy and mitigate risk. Check out the link in comments for a roundup of Weber Shandwick's polling of employees and consumers on this topic.
U.S. Head of Public Affairs?Meghann Curtis spoke with Harvard Business School to discuss findings of our latest Pulse on America survey as related to time off for voting and to join other experts in sharing strategies to help encourage employee voting.

In our conversation with Aaron "Ronnie" Chatterji, former White House advisor of the CHIPS and Science Act, and professor of business at Duke University, he discusses the impact of industrial policy. Chatterji emphasized that bills such as the CHIPs and Science Act were #bipartisan bills. Both #Democrats and #Republicans came together to work on this act which has seen over 150 billion dollars worth of investments from private investors. Chatterji is hopeful that since there is so much bipartisan support, these policies will take hold and be effective. After inspiring discussions at impressive Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School one thing is clear: deeper knowledge and understanding about climate needs to be embedded in both engineering and finance studies. Climate is no longer a niche competence – it is a required skill for all leaders to manage the new economy that is taking shape as we speak. We look forward to explore how we can lead this together with some of the best Universities. HBS Institute for Business in Global Society, Drew Keller and many more.
