Next up in our AMD IWD Takeover Week, let's meet Lu Lu, Fellow, Silicon Design Engineering?at AMD. ??
Lets's get to know more on her and what International Women's Day means to her.
"During my university years in Belgium, I stumbled into the semiconductor industry almost by accident. At the time, the English-taught programs was limited, and I found myself drawn to IC design. To my surprise, I discovered a natural aptitude for logic and chip design, excelling academically and receiving positive feedback during internships. This passion led me to pursue a master’s degree in SOC design in Sweden, where I graduated with top honors and officially began my career as an IC engineer.
I chose to return to China and joined a startup, where I gained valuable experience in the fast-paced world of semiconductor innovation. Later, after relocating to Beijing with my family, I seized the opportunity to join AMD as they were building their engineering team at the Beijing site. Over the past decade at AMD, I started as a senior SOC designer and gradually immersed myself in different domains of the AMD’s SOC architecture. Through hard work and dedication, I grew into a recognized SOC architect, contributing to key projects such as the early development of AMD’s GPU AI chips, including the MI100 and MI200 series, as well as the Navi3 and Navi4 products.
Recently, I made the decision to join the SOC-Next team, where I aim to leverage my extensive experience in SOC design to drive meaningful improvements to AMD’s existing SOC architecture. I am deeply passionate about my work and take pride in being part of an industry that pushes the boundaries of technology. My journey from a curious student to a seasoned SOC architect has been both challenging and rewarding, and I look forward to continuing to innovate and contribute to the future of semiconductor design.
International Women’s Day, to me, is a celebration of progress, resilience, and the collective strength of women in all fields, including the male-dominated semiconductor industry. As a woman in IC industry, I’ve experienced myself the importance of perseverance and the power of breaking barriers.
One quote that has inspired me is from Marie Curie: “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.” As an IC engineer, this resonates deeply with me. In the life of and engineer, we often face complex problems that require curiosity and determination. This quote is a philosophy that reminds me to face challenges with confidence and a mindset of learning, rather than fear."
Thank you Lu Lu! Stay tuned tomorrow for more amazing women from AMD!
