As part of our social responsibility program GAP Gives, we're excited to share the incredible achievement of CafeTec CR, a group of talented students from La Zona de Los Santos, Costa Rica. These young innovators recently took 1st place in the WRO Costa Rica Robotics Competition under the theme “Earth Allies” with their innovative project Coffee Tower. This automated system is designed to optimize the planting, harvesting and production of Costa Rica's coffee. ??? Their impressive win has earned them the opportunity to represent Costa Rica at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Izmir, Turkey, from November 28 to 30. As part of our commitment to investing in people and driving positive change, GAP and our GAPsters have come together to contribute to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. We are incredibly proud to support their journey as they showcase their creativity, technical skills and Costa Rican culture to the world. “October 2023 had just kicked off, and I was traveling back home after taking my father to the doctor. Late in the morning, I received a message from my recruiter with an offer to work at GAP. It was a whirlwind: by the end of the afternoon, I had signed the contract, and ten days later, I attended my first onboarding meeting. A year later, I can’t believe the impact GAP has had on my life. When I joined as a Program Manager, I was still recovering from a period of depression that began at the end of 2022, shortly after graduating as a Civil Engineer. I was trying to leave it behind and pivot my career into the IT industry. GAP took a chance on me, even though my experience wasn’t extensive, and in many ways, it helped lift me from the darkest place. While I had previous experience in Agile environments, this was my first leadership role. Working with diverse teams of designers, developers, content writers and more has been incredibly enriching. I’ve learned to create web mockups, apply UX/UI best practices and work seamlessly with various CMS platforms. Along the way, I’ve been exposed to fascinating cultural traditions, like the Czech custom of keeping a live carp in the bath before Christmas Eve dinner. During this time, I’ve also fulfilled a lifelong dream by publishing my first book and am now building my own writer’s website. I sought a company where I could do more than just work to pay the bills — a place that would support my growth in every possible way, not just professionally but as a person.
