Kroger and Albertsons are facing a?class-action lawsuit?alleging that unionized workers for the grocers suffered financial harm because Albertsons agreed not to hire workers from Kroger’s King Soopers banner during a 10-day strike against the Colorado chain in 2022. The alleged agreement between the grocers reduced the bargaining power of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, causing the union to accept lower wage scales for workers for both supermarket companies in Colorado, the suit claims. The lawsuit builds on a case Colorado’s attorney general filed in February seeking to block Kroger from merging with Albertsons and?claiming the companies have colluded?through unlawful no-poach and non-solicitation agreements. https://lnkd.in/eNp8PXxY

With President-elect Donald Trump 55 days away from taking office, policy advocates are bracing for the incoming administration to make changes to SNAP as part of a broader push to reduce government spending. Alterations to SNAP would likely impact grocers because SNAP households account for?nearly a quarter?(24%) of consumer goods spending in the U.S., said consumer insights and data firm Numerator in a report last year. While Trump has yet to detail his administration’s plans for SNAP, his first term in office provides clues as to how his return to the White House could impact the food assistance program. The incoming administration will be bolstered by Republicans having won control of the House and Senate in the 2024 election. Trump’s recently announced cabinet picks include?Robert F. Kennedy Jr.?as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, and Brooke Rollins as?secretary of the USDA, pending Senate confirmation. Rollins would oversee SNAP. https://lnkd.in/ew-vJHAu

Redner's Markets has accused four frozen potato suppliers of colluding to illegally set their product prices at artificially high levels. The suppliers — Lamb Weston, McCain Foods, J.R. Simplot and Cavendish Farms — have implemented coordinated price increases “that allowed them to realize unprecedented margins” through a conspiracy since at least early 2021, Redner’s alleged in a class action lawsuit filed Nov. 15. https://lnkd.in/eXfCqa4y
