We are excited to present our research on a new analog-digital method for quantum simulation. By combining the best of both worlds, this hybrid approach provides a new promising avenue towards using quantum computers for applications that are not possible on classical computers. We already employed analog-digital simulations to make a noteworthy scientific discovery, namely the breakdown of a famous physics theory known as the Kibble-Zurek mechanism. Excitingly, the Lukin group from Harvard reported on similar observations in the same issue, thus underscoring the importance of this new insight. Read more here → https://goo.gle/419EGOA

Today, we present an AI co-scientist system, built on Gemini 2.0, which we designed to go beyond standard summarization and deep research tools to aid scientists in generating novel hypotheses and research plans. So far, the system's hypotheses have seen promising results in early studies on several important challenges in biomedicine, including drug repurposing for acute myeloid leukemia, understanding genetic mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, and novel treatment target discovery for liver fibrosis. Floods devastate communities worldwide, and at Google Research, we're committed to leveraging AI to improve flood forecasting and response. Today, we're excited to announce new advanced features in Flood Hub, designed to empower aid organizations, governments, and researchers. Key updates: * Inundation History Maps: High-resolution flood risk visualization for pre-planning and areas without real-time inundation data. * Basin View Per Gauge: Enhanced flood forecast tracking for specific locations like villages, hospitals, and shelters. * Improved Layers Panel & Help Center: Clearer information and detailed explanations of Flood Hub features. These updates are already making a real-world impact. In 2024, our partnerships with GiveDirectly and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Nigeria and Bangladesh demonstrated the power of AI-driven anticipatory action. By utilizing our Flood API and Flood Hub, they delivered critical cash support to vulnerable communities before flood peaks, significantly enhancing resilience. We're proud to support initiatives like GiveDirectly's AI-powered cash relief in Africa and the IRC's replication of this approach in other regions. These efforts highlight the potential of AI to transform disaster response. We invite government agencies, NGOs, and researchers to explore Flood Hub and our Flood Forecasting research site. Together, we can build more resilient communities. Learn more about these advancements: https://goo.gle/41myMJO #GoogleResearch #FloodForecasting #DisasterRelief #HumanitarianAid #AI
