New research paper from the Google Health and Google Research teams published in Nature Medicine ?? Automated radiology report generation has the potential to improve patient care and reduce the workload of radiologists. However, the path toward real-world adoption has been stymied by the challenge of evaluating the clinical quality of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated reports. In this research we explored how an expert evaluation of AI-generated reports by engaging a panel of board-certified radiologists. Demonstrating that by combining clinician expertise with AI capabilities, there’s real potential to enhance patient care and reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment. Dermatology research has long faced challenges due to datasets lacking diversity— often skewing toward lighter skin tones and lacking common conditions like rashes, infections and allergies. The Skin Condition Image Network (SCIN) addresses these critical gaps by providing a diverse and representative collection of over 10,000 skin condition images across various skin tones and body parts. This work, led by Stanford Medicine in collaboration with teams from Google Health and Google Research, has now been peer-reviewed and published in JAMA.
