Today, we’re spotlighting Stronger Together Now! Stronger Together Now hosted a traffic safety education campaign to engage, empower, and educate local K-12 staff, students, and families. The awareness campaign?included student-led art installations and workshops on safety at high-risk intersections near schools. The project also promoted and showcased the campaign initiatives on Stronger Together Now's website and social media pages to promote traffic safety education and awareness among school staff. Today, we’re spotlighting Santa Ana Active Streets! Santa Ana Active Streets connected Santa Ana?community members, community organizations, city staff, and policymakers to improve conditions on the city’s roadways through education, coalition-building, and advocacy. This awardee hosted community workshops, conducted a traffic safety training, installed a temporary artistic crosswalk for the Delhi community, conducted a walk assessment and distributed safety signage.?? Today, we’re spotlighting WE REACH OUT! WE REACH OUT rolled out traffic safety campaigns to increase awareness of the largest contributors to traffic collisions in Jurupa Valley. The project also increased access to walking and biking opportunities by providing safety equipment to community members at local events, including hosting the “Skate Thru Summer” event in July at a local skate park, where the the public tested temporary traffic safety improvements deployed by the SCAG Go Human Kit of Parts. Proyecto Pastoral successfully engaged a diverse audience, including students, parents, and the broader public to improve pedestrian safety in Boyle Heights. Through a combination of targeted training sessions, workshops, and extensive public engagement initiatives, Proyecto Pastoral shared the knowledge and practical tools necessary to protect themselves, their children, and others from the dangers posed by unsafe streets. In the West Adams neighborhood in Los Angeles, Office of: Office developed new strategies for holistic situational research, facilitated a series of conversations, workshops, and installations to identify art, design, and planning efforts to create safe spaces for healing and repair in response to harms in the public realm. Office of: Office also implemented a walk audit on the West Adams Boulevard and created a Sites of Repair: Program Toolkit Storybook that illustrates joyful and storytelling elements to enhance the experience for people walking. Los Angeles Walks?leveraged an existing network of Safe Street Promotores across LA County by expanding their Promotores Program to an online platform through a series of virtual Office Hours open to the public and tailored to local communities. The Promotores build local knowledge, promote infrastructure improvements, and create a network of peer learners that can support each other outside of the Office Hours space. The project also convened the Safe Street Advocates for peer-learning and support opportunities, including a temporary safety demonstration! Central City Neighborhood Partners?addressed structural barriers to safety for people walking in Westlake, MacArthur Park, Koreatown, and other Los Angeles neighborhoods by conducting community events for residents to share their stories. Led by promotoras and youth ambassadors, the project conducted outreach and walk audits utilizing Street Story community engagement tools while empowering community members to become safe streets advocates. Today, we’re spotlighting Nyeland Promise! Nyeland Promise educated residents of Nyeland Acres in Oxnard by creating a multilingual educational outreach program on bicyclist and pedestrian safety. The project included a Bike Rodeo where children attended a workshop on bicycle safety skills, experienced the Kit of Parts temporary demonstration, and attended a presentation to a local neighborhood council meeting. Throughout the month, we’re spotlighting Go Human Community Streets Grant Program Grant who completed creative traffic safety projects across Southern California during summer 2024. Today, we’re spotlighting Arts Council for Long Beach! Arts Council for Long Beach collected video testimonials to create an oral history project about traffic safety issues during a community celebration and traffic safety fair in the Washington neighborhood of Long Beach. The event celebrated the unveiling of new youth-inspired and youth-created murals painted in a local park and engaged with community members about their traffic safety concerns, documenting responses for future interventions.??? ? On August 22 and 29, the city of Fullerton hosted two (2) Farmer’s Markets in the Fullerton Downtown Plaza using the Go Human Kit of Parts to showcase potential pedestrian safety enhancements in the Walk on Wilshire (WOW) area. About 500 attendees visited each of the farmer’s markets and residents experienced the artistic crosswalk and parklet!
