What a week it has been for the team over at GlobalScot HQ! We've been across the country and back, engaging in a huge number of different activities. Monday kicked off with a team volunteering day at an amazing local charity, Kids Love Clothes. ???? Tuesday brought the who's who of the Scottish space sector together with delegations from Malaysia, Germany, and the Nordics to the Trades Hall of Glasgow to enjoy networking and of course to taste test a few drams and some of tunnocks finest ?? Wednesday and Thursday was Space Comm Expo Scotland. Wow, what an event. Attended by over 3000 delegates, Scotland really got the opportunity to showcase our incredible space sector. MOUs were signed, and our new Space Trade & Investment Envoy was announced, congratulations Daniel Smith! Got the chance to catch up with several GlobalScots including Laura Todd, Yvette Hopkins, Angela Mathis CEO, Daniel Smith, Ross Hamilton, Peter Young, Craig Clark, and Lesley Jane Smith. Spotted several others throughout the day too! Thursday also involved attendance at the Global Insights event, showcasing the consumer industries sector. And if that wasn't enough activity, we also attended a Women's health event hosted by Burness Paull with GlobalScots Grace McGill WS and Fiona Nicolson, in collaboration with the Scottish Lifesciences Association, showcasing exciting developments in the field of women’s health in relation to drugs, diagnostics and devices. A great line-up, guests heard presentations and a panel discussion from a variety of leading experts working in Healthcare & Life Sciences in Scotland. Shared below are some of the key takeaways from the discussion..... Highly Digitized???? The UAE has a strong digital infrastructure. Driving AI adoption and innovation in emerging spaces such as mental health, women's health and chronic disease management will be key priorities. The UAE is moving from digital transformation to digital innovation. Innovative solutions that address gaps and government aspirations will find great success. Changing demographics like an aging population create new service needs. Aligning with Government Initiatives???? Understanding the UAE's vision and regulatory requirements for healthcare and well-being is crucial. Private providers are increasingly digitizing and focusing on new services such as preventative care to support these national goals. Ability to dovetail solutions and services to these needs are a recipe for success. Keys to Market Entry??? Localizing your solution's relevance and messaging is critical. Having a strong local presence and "boots on the ground" is essential for understanding the market and building relationships. Scotland’s success is soaring ?? We’ve once again clinched the top spot as the UK’s leading location outside of London for foreign direct investment (FDI), according to EY's Scotland Attractiveness Survey ?? A record-breaking 142 FDI projects were secured in 2023, which is a 12.7% rise from the previous year. This is a fantastic accolade for Scotland and great news for all of our GlobalScots who continue to support the delivery of new inward investment into Scotland. In excellent news for Scotland, EY’s annual independent analysis of inward investment shows Scotland has once again retained its place as the top UK location outside of London for foreign direct investment (FDI) ?? Scotland achieved a record-breaking 142 projects, representing a 12.7% increase from the previous year ?? This marks the fifth consecutive year of growth, with Scotland now commanding a 14.4% share of all UK projects. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen all featured in the top 10 UK cities by number of FDI projects won last year. Also, for the first time in six years, utility supply projects have overtaken digital technology projects in Scotland, due to increasing levels of low-carbon and clean tech investment.
