We often hear grumbles of frustration about Excel's decimal buttons. Nestled in the middle of the Home tab, Increase Decimal and Decrease Decimal offer a convenient way to quickly adjust the decimal places a number has. The problem is remembering which does what. Naturally, our brains have become accustomed to expecting the negative action on the left and the positive one on the right. This is almost always the case across the software and app interfaces we use in our everyday lives. Except, it isn't with these… until now (well, kind of). The Excel for web decimal buttons are now in the ?????????????? order! ?? ?? Resource-intensive tasks like running macros, using add-ins, and loading queries can cause Excel to become unresponsive for long periods. Who really wants to see that dreaded spinning blue ring? Thankfully, it's possible to open a new instance of Excel, an independent window that runs as though it's a separate application. This allows you to work in one while another chugs away. There are a few ways to do this, including: ?????????????? ???????????? Right-click the Excel icon, hold Alt, and select 'Excel'. ?????????? ???????? ???????????? Hold Alt and select the Excel icon. ???????? ???????????????? ???????????? Right-click on your chosen Excel file, hold Alt and select 'Open'. Type '=' into the formula bar and then cycle through each letter of the alphabet to see which functions appear in the AutoComplete menu. Notice something? That's right. 'J' is the anomaly. ? However, if you're using Excel 2010 or older (?????????? ?????? ???????????? ?? ??????), you have access to the JIS function. JIS converts half-width (single-byte) letters within a character string to full-width (double-byte) characters. DBCS was added to Excel 2013 to replace this, although it's undocumented, so you won't see it being suggested. Any ideas for a new function beginning with 'J'? ?? #excel #globalexcelsummit
