Congratulations Shehzad!
I’ll be joining North Carolina State University this Spring 2025 as a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Jun Liu. My research will focus on nano-scale thermal transport for energy storage, and conversion. In light of First-Generation College Student Day (November 8th), I want to reflect on the journey that led me here. Being the first in my family to pursue higher education (Ph.D.), I understand the challenges that come with navigating unfamiliar paths. Each step in this journey has been an opportunity to grow, and I’m grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received along the way (Dr. Hayri Sezer ,FireGY, Georgia Southern College of Engineering & Computing, Georgia Southern University). My spotlight project centers around Li-ion battery safety and recycling: - Thermal Runaway Mitigation: Preventing overheating and fire risks in Li-ion batteries is crucial for both consumer safety and environmental sustainability. - Recycling Solutions: Exploring innovative ways to recycle Li-ion batteries to reduce waste and recover valuable materials is equally important. This includes Pyro, Hydro, and Direct Recycling methods (as illustrated in the figure by ReCell Advanced Battery Recycling, Image: ReCell). Together, let’s work toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. #LithiumIonBatteries #BatteryRecycling #SustainableEnergy #ThermalRunaway #FirstGenStudent #FirstGenCOE #PhDStudent #NCStateUniversity #BatterySafety #LiIon
