  • Today, we are slicing a piece of pie ?? for Pi (π)! π is a key measurement for many of our engineering formulas here at GE Aerospace Research. Our researchers are using the formula day in and day out to design and build jet engines and more! There are many things you can do with pi—like calculating the rotor circumference of the world’s largest jet engine (the circumference of the front fan clocks in at 10.52 meters, roughly equivalent to a tower of 50 carry-ons stacked on top of one another ????). π helps our technology spin. Happy Pi Day! #piday #innovation #aerospace

  • Today, we celebrated Pi Day ?? at GE Aerospace Research with an exciting employee engagement experience that brought our team together in a fun and educational way. From pizza pies to moon pies, to a pie-day themed puzzle that tested our mathematical skills, ?? we embraced the spirit of Pi Day with enthusiasm. At GE Aerospace Research, we believe in fostering a collaborative and engaging work environment where everyone can thrive. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this Pi Day celebration a memorable one! Special shout out to Christopher Yoon, research engineer - Component Heat Transfer, who was the Pi day expert. #PiDay #EmployeeEngagement #GEAerospace #Innovation

  • Feeling hot, hot, hot ?? Exciting news in heat tolerant semiconductor research! The University of Michigan has been awarded up to $7.5 million to advance heat-tolerant semiconductors from the lab to fab(rication). This groundbreaking research holds immense potential for the aerospace industry, where high-performance and reliable materials are crucial. The new project will scale up NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's technology and manufacturing process to a modern wafer size and democratize silicon carbide (SiC) chip design. Along with NASA, collaborators included GE Aerospace Research in Niskayuna, Ozark Integrated Circuits, Inc., and Wolfspeed. Engineers at the NASA Glenn Research Center have been exploring the potential of SiC, as a?high-performance semiconductor?for decades. SiC devices can handle higher voltages, temperatures, and radiation levels than silicon alone. “SiC-based high temperature electronics will be a key enabler for delivering new sensor and actuator functionality that improves the capability of future of DoD engine platforms. Beyond jet engines, the ability to handle more extreme temperature capabilities could open exciting new applications in control and sensing for hypersonic applications," said Aaron Knobloch, platform leader, controls and electrical systems at GE Aerospace Research.
