Offered both virtually and in-person, these interactive learning experiences will spark conversations about local and global issues and inspire action. ?? The Discovery Center is offering free #accessibility tours designed to meet the specific needs of people in our community. Offered Saturdays 10-11am, the tours will feature the Gates Foundation’s work in global health and development. ??March 15: Stationary Tour - Visitors can stay seated while facilitators tell stories with objects and props. ??March 29: Tactile Tour - Uses objects that visitors can touch. Staff are trained in visual descriptions and have basic sighted guide training. ??April 12: Low Sensory Input Morning - Gallery lighting is lowered, videos operate with captions, and the audio is turned off. ??May 3: ASL Tour - Tour is interpreted in American Sign Language by a certified professional interpreter. ??May 17: Live Captioned Tour - Tour is transcribed in real time by a captioner. We had a great time celebrating #InternationalWomensDay with renowned writer and activist Dja?li Amadou Amal, the Gates Foundation's Sybil Chidiac, and more than 300 guests! Dja?li Amadou Amal shared powerful stories highlighting the resilience of women navigating cultural and societal barriers, that sparked important conversations. Guests also enjoyed music from KEXP DJ Lace Cadence and delicious African food from Regina Bukenya. Storytelling and advocacy can be powerful drivers of positive transformation. #IWD2025 ??: ? We were honored to host the Gates Foundation's Black Philanthropic Partnership Employee Resource Group's reception in our galleries in honor of #BlackHistoryMonth. The event convened local Black employee resource group members from Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Alaska Airlines, and many more organization in Seattle to form connections, celebrate culture, share stories, and enjoy the talents of local poet and creative Ebo Barton, and local musician Lee Anderson! This year, we celebrated Black culture through food, music, and meaningful conversations inspired by this year’s Black History Month theme: “African Americans and Labor.” Together, we reflected on the enduring legacy of Black resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurship—and how these stories align with our shared commitment to opportunity for all. ??: Jordan Nicholson
