ExxonMobil plans to invest more than $200 million to expand its advanced recycling operations at its sites in Baytown and Beaumont, Texas. The new operations are expected to start up in 2026 and can help increase advanced recycling rates and divert plastic from landfills. Founded in 1919, the Baytown Refinery began operation in 1920 and the Chemical Plant started up in 1940. The complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. Employing a workforce of approximately 7,000, the Baytown area sites are highly integrated which makes the plants and products more efficient. We are developing technologies to make cleaner fuels and are working together to operate more safely and reliably. This week, ExxonMobil took a big step towards its plan to produce virtually carbon-free hydrogen, and it’s happening right here in Baytown! * * * * A leading diversified energy and petrochemicals group fully owned by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, ADNOC, has officially signed an agreement to acquire a 35% equity stake in ExxonMobil Corporation’s proposed low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia production facility here in Baytown.
