Exhaust gas abatement innovation: a solution to reach shipping’s sustainability goals

关于我们

W?rtsil? Exhaust Treatment is a leading global manufacturer of exhaust gas abatement technology for the international shipping industry. Building on decades of experience as a leading market player in ship engine and parts design and engineering, our technology addresses the challenges faced by the maritime sector today and those we anticipate will come in the future as we transition towards decarbonisation and zero emissions. The implementation of the 2020 Global Sulphur Cap was a starting point for continually improving our exhaust gas solutions; adapting our technology to meet and exceed the environmental compliance demands of the future. Technology developments have progressed to now enable scrubbers to be used as a springboard for tackling multiple marine pollutants beyond sulphur oxide (SOx); including NOx and PM, as well as the ultimate challenge of CO2 with carbon capture and storage (CCS), all based on the insights and technology platform forged by scrubbers. Our cutting-edge solutions are designed for the long term as true lifecycle solutions. By prioritising innovation, adopting our modular approach in all projects, and continuous research and development, we build, adapt, and enhance market-leading technology that will safeguard assets into the future.

#HotOffThePress - W?rtsil? will supply its latest carbon capture and storage-ready scrubber systems -?CCS-Ready scrubbers?- for three container ships owned by German operator Leonhardt & Blumberg. A CCS-Ready solution will assure Leonhardt & Blumberg that it has continued regulatory compliance for SOx emissions today and opens the door to a smooth CCS system adoption in the future. The W?rtsil? solution significantly reduces a vessel’s operational expenses by enabling it to operate with less costly and more readily available fuel (HFO). At the same time, it significantly reduces the ship’s carbon footprint in line with the industry’s decarbonisation targets. “This project highlights and strengthens W?rtsil?’s commitment to deliver sustainable solutions for our customers. Our CCS-Ready scrubber technology has been proven in extensive testing over the past two and a half years. It is based on our deep experience and in-house know-how and will deliver a significant contribution to the industry’s efforts to reduce shipping’s environmental impact,” - Sigurd Jenssen, Director, Exhaust Treatment, W?rtsil? Marine.? Following a number of newbuild orders for CCS-Ready scrubbers, this will be one of the first retrofit projects prepared for CCS in the marine industry. #HotOffThePress - W?rtsil? will upgrade the exhaust treatment system onboard four vessels in Norwegian operator Color Line's fleet. As maritime's drive for energy efficiency and emissions reductions become ever more urgent, ship owners and operators are seeking solutions which will help them to optimise vessel performance and reach sustainability targets. The upgrade to a hybrid scrubber system onboard these ships will give Color Line control over any abatement from the scrubber wash water, ensuring its vessels remain compliant with tightening regulations.? “Through adopting a modular approach, continuous research and development, as well as prioritising innovation, we are fully committed to developing abatement solutions which support the industry in its goals for reducing its emissions footprint. We have worked closely with Color Line in the past and are pleased to continue to support them with ensuring their assets operate safely, efficiently and sustainably.”? - Kashif Javaid, Director of Sales, Exhaust Treatment, W?rtsil?
