Reflecting on her journey through the Asia Pacific Leadership Program, Huyen Truong, Vietnam, APLP Generation 7, shares how exposure to adaptive leadership has transformed her approach to challenges: “I didn’t know what it meant then, but now see there’s not only one way to do things. In different working contexts and environments you have to adapt, there’s not one perfect way. How we adapt, and being adaptive is one of the most important qualities I gained.” The Asia Pacific Leadership Program is currently in the review process for its 2025 cohort, Generation 23. Applications for 2026 cohort will open in September 2025 for those interested in joining a transformative leadership experience. When asked, "What questions about equity are you bringing with you to the Equitable Futures Fellowship?" Timothy McInerny from Australia shared: "What are the questions we should be asking to challenge our personal priorities, norms, structures, etc.? How can we use an equity lens to frame and communicate approaches and outcomes in policy development? And how does the western framing of equity translate and apply in non-western environments, cultures, and systems?" Tim’s thought-provoking questions remind us of the importance of rethinking equity in diverse contexts and striving for inclusive, culturally-sensitive solutions that resonate globally. Tim is a participant in the 2024-2025 Equitable Futures Fellowship, a partnership between the Doris Duke Foundation and the East-West Center, dedicated to empowering leaders who are committed to building more inclusive and equitable communities across the Asia-Pacific region. When asked, "What role do you believe leadership plays in fostering equitable spaces?" Husnain Lilani from Pakistan shared: "Leaders drive equity by valuing diverse perspectives and actively working to eliminate biases, ensuring everyone has the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive. This includes fostering an environment where everyone feels safe to voice their ideas and concerns." Husnain’s response highlights the essential role leaders play in shaping inclusive, supportive spaces where all voices are heard. By embracing diversity and encouraging open dialogue, leaders can create environments that empower individuals to contribute fully, driving innovation and positive change within their communities. This approach not only enhances collaboration but also strengthens the fabric of society as a whole.
