Environmental Tech Lab Success: Knaq, a New York-based company with an IoT platform providing real-time alerts about critical industrial equipment, is further expanding their partnership with NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) to boost operating efficiencies. During Knaq’s Environmental Tech Lab pilot, Knaq installed 15 devices and provided real-time alerting on critical industrial equipment including pumps, generators, boilers, and blowers. Knaq’s real-time dashboard eliminates the need for routine field visits, freeing up hours of DEP technician time. As a result, DEP procured 19 devices which are actively producing thousands of unique data points per day. DEP is continuing to evaluate how Knaq’s technology can further scale, as Knaq's solution allows DEP to access live status on critical industrial equipment without having to travel to remote facilities. This solution is especially helpful in Upstate NY water supply facilities that are geographically dispersed. NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) has selected Gybe, a company that uses machine learning algorithms and satellite imagery to monitor water quality at large scale, for a yearlong pilot; and ?? NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) has identified three additional technologies that show potential for future commercial use. ?? After working with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to launch the Transit Tech Lab in 2018 and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) in 2023 to create the Environmental Tech Lab, we’ve kicked off our third public-sector innovation lab to identify innovative solutions from the global tech sector to address complex DOB priorities as it works to ensure the overall safety, compliance, and quality of the city's built environment — made up of over one million buildings.
