In its academic degree programs, the College focuses on applied studies that implement state of the art curriculum to educate students for long-term success in their profession. The College supports learners through comprehensive student success components, experiential learning opportunities, and engagement with public and private sector partners. The College conducts basic, applied, and translational research and engages in creative work; it provides mentored research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Billings, assistant professor in our Department of Emergency, Disaster and Global Security Studies as well as chair of our online B.S. in Emergency Services (https://lnkd.in/em-FesBT) has recently presented groundbreaking research at the Fire Station Design Symposium, hosted by the Fire Industry Education Resource Organization. His talk, titled?"Do You Feel the Shock? The Science of Alerting Systems,"?explored innovative approaches to designing fire stations to enhance sleep quality and reduce cardio strain among firefighters. Joel's insights are paving the way for smarter alerting systems that significantly improve firefighter health and safety.
