A recent E&E News story from Shelby Webb dives into the effort from small oil and gas producers to repeal recent methane emissions standards. This includes the Waste Emissions Charge — a commonsense tool to help #CutMethane — that holds polluters to their share of emissions and is based on reduction goals set by leading oil and gas producers themselves. Environmental Defense Fund's Mark S. Brownstein spoke to why the rule is fair, necessary, and the exact kind of forward-thinking approach that must stay in place if U.S. producers want to meet cleaner global production standards. ? ?? https://lnkd.in/gBc6p4au

关于我们
EDF believes energy should be safe, affordable, and reliable — and that it shouldn’t harm the climate we depend on. With ingenuity and innovation, we can achieve these goals. That’s why we’re working around the world to inform and accelerate the energy transition, and bend the curve on global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel production and use by 2030.

It has been another BIG year for electric trucks, with 15,300+ deployed so far in 2024. ?? Data shows the positive trend for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles continues to accelerate — up nearly 44% from just last year — and this momentum shows no sign of slowing down. With electrification more accessible than ever, fleets of all sizes, from large to small, are joining the effort in the transition to zero-emission trucks. Our new blog shares more findings on the fast-growing shift ?? https://lnkd.in/dWC4JJiu

Hundreds of community advocates, energy industry leaders, state officials and staff are gathering for the final day of the Texas Energy Summit! I had the great chance to talk about supporting a robust medium- and heavy-duty Texas charging network during a panel yesterday, and have learned a lot more on Texas' grid future, workforce development, and how we can keep investments movingin the state.

On #TransportDay @COP29 Azerbaijan, I'm delighted to share a new EDF techno-economic study that demonstrates how - under a combination of factors - enhancing cross-sectoral synergies can massively reduce the costs of PtL e-SAF production AND the power sectors' energy transition. This report cannot be more timely, given the backdrop of urgent calls for more integrated systems planning and "bankable" implementation strategies to ensure sustainable decarbonization pathways for the transport sectors. ? According to EDF’s grid optimization model -> there will be sufficient surplus renewable electricity to meet or exceed U.S. jet fuel demand in 2050, up to 64% more than necessary to fulfill the national long-term 100% SAF goal... -> the 2030 capacity of surplus renewable electricity in the U.S. Midwest alone, when combined with already available waste CO2 from industrial fermentation plants, could become enough e-SAF at competitive prices to surpass the 3-billion-gallon SAF Grand Challenge’s near-term milestone. ?? ?? NEW Environmental Defense Fund research highlights a groundbreaking climate and economic opportunity on #COP29's #TransportDay: "By marrying CO2 waste from local ethanol plants with surplus renewable energy, the U.S. has the potential to produce some of the cheapest, most sustainable aviation fuels on the market, while growing the country’s economy, meeting climate goals and accelerating the energy transition," EDF's Pedro Piris-Cabezas Ph.D. said. ?? Congratulations to Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) Executive Vice President Hiroyuki Mori on his #TIME100 Climate award! The CLEAN initiative, which expanded last month to include all major Japanese utilities and energy companies, is a game-changer for #CutMethane action. As a major importer, Japan can drive significant action globally. https://lnkd.in/g52vDid6

Methane was a hot topic at #COP29 week 1 ?? — and rightfully so. Acting to #CutMethane emissions from the oil and gas industry is the fastest, most cost-effective way to slow climate warming, which is why Environmental Defense Fund experts were on the ground in Azerbaijan last week highlighting this crucial opportunity. Industry has made a long list of commitments pledging to slash emissions, but meaningful action to #CutMethane is where the value is. Holding oil and gas companies to their promises will be essential for any climate progress. Using data from a new generation of satellites including MethaneSAT and Carbon Mapper — both of which just released new data — and other technologies, will track and measure the real-world results ??? https://lnkd.in/eVURJNid
