Many of the largest oil and gas companies signed up to the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter at COP28. BUT: One year later, emissions still remain stubbornly high ?? Methane pollution isn’t just bad for the environment and our climate, it’s a waste of valuable energy. Our Mark S. Brownstein joined We Don't Have Time at #COP29 to speak with Tomás Bredariol, International Energy Agency (IEA), Sharon Wilson, Oilfield Witness, Ingmar Rentzhog and Nicholas (Nick) Nuttall about the methane challenge. ?? 关于我们
EDF believes energy should be safe, affordable, and reliable — and that it shouldn’t harm the climate we depend on. With ingenuity and innovation, we can achieve these goals. That’s why we’re working around the world to inform and accelerate the energy transition, and bend the curve on global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel production and use by 2030.

?? Scenes from #COP29! Our Chief Scientist, Steve Hamburg, joined the U.S. Department of State Pavilion for a discussion on maximizing the success of clean hydrogen. ??? The key to success? Minimizing H2 leakage and other climate risks associated w/ hydrogen's production, use and management. ?? Governments and global leaders must be clear-eyed about the benefits and risks of hydrogen development — which requires robust climate accounting, grounded in the latest climate science, real data and strong verification protocols. ?? A new report highlights how the South Coast Air Quality Management District's innovative Warehouse Indirect Source Rule (ISR) is tackling e-commerce pollution by catalyzing the adoption of hundreds of zero-emission trucks. This effort is reducing hundreds of tons of harmful nitrogen oxide and particulate matter pollution, addressing air quality issues linked to the growing e-commerce sector. Key achievements include: ? 817 zero-emission trucks deployed across warehouses ? Nearly 340 charging stations installed ? 0.86 tons of nitrogen oxide pollution reduced daily, on track to cut 1.5–3.0 tons/day ? $1.2 - $2.7 billion in health savings projected by 2031 Recent e-commerce growth has doubled truck traffic, harming nearby communities— often communities of color. The ISR is providing flexible compliance options for warehouses while showing it’s possible to scale zero-emission solutions and deliver tangible health benefits. With clean air advocates nationwide eyeing California’s success, states like New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Colorado are exploring similar policies. Read Sam Becker's blog to dive deeper into how the ISR is transforming warehouse pollution into cleaner air and healthier communities: https://lnkd.in/gUhVzVSS

We were pleased to see methane regulations mentioned in Environment and Climate Change Canada's statement shared on Tuesday at #COP29. Methane is a major climate opportunity, and by acting urgently we can mitigate the climate crisis' severity, improve air quality, and reduce energy waste all in one stroke. There's no time to waste: we need strong leadership from Steven Guilbeault to make sure Canada follows through on its recommitment to slash methane emissions. Canada has set world leading targets on methane — now it’s time to finalize the rules that will achieve them. Let's pass these regs ASAP ??
?? At #COP29, Canada’s Ambassador for Climate Change made a significant call to action, emphasizing the need for increased financial support for global #ClimateAction. As we face escalating climate challenges, investment in sustainable solutions is critical. Read the full statement: https://ow.ly/Zc2W50UbfnE

"It’s the data that ultimately tells the story." ?? At #COP29, our Mark S. Brownstein highlighted the importance of data from sources like MethaneSAT and the International Energy Agency (IEA)'s Global Methane Tracker in monitoring and managing methane emissions ???. Thanks to Tomás Bredariol, Energy Analyst at the IEA, Sharon Wilson, Director of Oilfield Witness, and Ingmar Rentzhog, CEO & Founder of We Don't Have Time for the great session.

A recent E&E News story from Shelby Webb dives into the effort from small oil and gas producers to repeal recent methane emissions standards. This includes the Waste Emissions Charge — a commonsense tool to help #CutMethane — that holds polluters to their share of emissions and is based on reduction goals set by leading oil and gas producers themselves. Environmental Defense Fund's Mark S. Brownstein spoke to why the rule is fair, necessary, and the exact kind of forward-thinking approach that must stay in place if U.S. producers want to meet cleaner global production standards. ? ?? https://lnkd.in/gBc6p4au

It has been another BIG year for electric trucks, with 15,300+ deployed so far in 2024. ?? Data shows the positive trend for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles continues to accelerate — up nearly 44% from just last year — and this momentum shows no sign of slowing down. With electrification more accessible than ever, fleets of all sizes, from large to small, are joining the effort in the transition to zero-emission trucks. Our new blog shares more findings on the fast-growing shift ?? https://lnkd.in/dWC4JJiu
