Millennium Challenge Corporation made two big decisions already this year: signing a new compact with #Mauritania and opening the chance for #Albania to begin negotiating compacts for future projects. Check out this update from our mission to the OECD - OCDE.
New year, new you??That’s how we’re feeling here as well at the U.S. Mission to the OECD.?And one thing we’re looking forward to in 2025 is the continued decline in inflation, both in the United States and around the world. So what exactly is the OECD predicting for U.S. and global inflation in the coming year??For one, headline inflation has already largely calmed down – in nearly half of developed nations, it’s at or below the targets set by central banks.?(Headline inflation refers to the overall change in prices of a broad basket of goods and services in an economy, including food, energy, housing, and transportation.?It provides a general view of the cost of living and the overall price level in an economy).?For the United States, headline inflation for 2024 was 2.5% -- well below the OECD average of 5.2%.?It’s predicted to fall even further in 2025 to 2.1%, while the OECD average is predicted to fall to 3.5%. Service inflation is proving somewhat stickier.?(Service inflation measures the change in prices specifically for services, such as healthcare, education, transportation, rent, and personal services such as getting a haircut or seeking legal advice.?Unlike headline inflation, service inflation does not include goods like food, energy, or manufactured products, and it tends to be less volatile than headline inflation because service prices do not change as quickly as commodity prices).?Service inflation has been stuck around 4% in median OECD countries.?But it too is expected to fall in both 2025 and 2026, in the United States and throughout the OECD. So what does this mean overall??In short, it’s great news for consumers, with an expectation that inflation will be lower, meaning that goods and services – like the cost of a dozen eggs – won’t skyrocket.??
