Active-duty military, reserve status, or veterans in any branch, are protected from employment discrimination "Will I be denied employment because I was on active duty, or am I currently on reserve status?" This question is often asked and sometimes haunts job seekers exiting the military. The uniformed services are a valuable source of leadership experience, trained talent, and diversity—a great match for Washington State government jobs. ? The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) protects the job rights of people who voluntarily or involuntarily leave employment positions to undertake military service or certain types of service in the National Disaster Medical System. USERRA also prohibits employers from discriminating against past and present members of the uniformed services, and applicants to the uniformed services. Employment discrimination because of past, current, or future military obligations is prohibited. The law covers most areas of employment, including Hiring, Promotion, Termination, and Benefits. Our Washington State Department of Social and Health Services has made some great strides recently in growing our #veteran community within the department. Part of this effort has been a small virtual monthly gathering, a connection café that we have been doing for a while, where we talk about our work as veterans with this agency. If you're interested in joining us at 11am tomorrow for an hour, 10 October, want to network with veteran DSHS employees, and you're a transitioning and/or just curious vet/military spouse, please DM me for a link to join. ?? #Veteran #hiring #militaryspouse #DSHS Bill, Monica, Frank, Rob, Olivia, Seth, Patrick, Josh, Jessica, Adam
