?????????? ?????? ?????? ???? ??????????. It all started because of an argument. I was tired of freight sales and wanted to return to my job in the Recruiting Department. And, why not? By all accounts, I had done a good enough job in Recruiting that someone thought it would be a good idea to move the young kid into Sales. I gave an ultimatum. They countered with a request for six more weeks. I held my ground, and there were meetings scheduled to discuss what role I would take on moving forward. The meetings were scheduled and spaced in a manner that took about…six weeks; all while I worked in freight sales. Clever people, these trucking execs. I left one day after another unproductive meeting about my future without fanfare, cake, or a cheap gold watch. I knew they wouldn’t let me go and they knew I wouldn’t quit. We just kind of drifted apart, until the letter arrived from Heartland Express CEO and trucking hall-of-famer, Russ Gerdin thanking me for my time and letting me know that I had a friend in him. It’s a letter that I still carry with me always twenty-five years later. It was February 1999, and we had an almost two-year-old and another one on the way. Retirement was not an option (I asked). So, necessity was truly the mother of the invention of CDLjobsOnline.com, later changed to CDLjobs.com. Twenty-five years caused a lot of scars and bruises and yet somehow, I still enjoy what I do. There have been a lot of great people who helped along the way and a lot of great trucking companies made up of some of the finest, funniest, meanest, cheapest, kindest, caring, great people you could ever hope to meet. Thank you for the role you played whether friend, employee, client, competitor, acquaintance, or just someone who occasionally shows up to take swipes at me online…it’s all appreciated. Truly. I won’t say that I’m looking forward to another 25 years, because only a crazy person would say that, and I am not crazy (my family had me tested). But I am looking forward to the future.
