We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Leapfrogging Partnership, catalyzed by a $100 million investment from IKEA Foundation. This initiative will accelerate access to clean, affordable zero-emission vehicles the world over, deepening our Campaign's support for partners across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. "Road transportation accounts for roughly 15% of energy related greenhouse gas emissions so if we are serious about a global transition towards 1.5 degrees of global warming then we cannot reduce emissions without it," IKEA Foundation's portfolio manager for the real economy, Edgar Van de Brug, told Reuters. "We know that communities are already experiencing the benefits of e-mobility, from delivery drivers saving money on fuel to public transit workers breathing cleaner air... Now is the time to supercharge the momentum of EV innovation with ambitious public policy, business leadership, and strong partnerships." shared Drive Electric Campaign Director Rebecca Fisher Read more in Reuters: https://lnkd.in/g3qbcMd4

关于我们
Drive Electric is the campaign to end the polluting tailpipe and accelerate the global transition to a clean transportation future, delivering massive benefits to the climate, health, and the economy. We advance smart government policies to drive electric vehicle (EV) supply and demand, directly impacting regional change and scaling strategies for rapid adoption. We engage business leaders to ensure adequate investment and drive ambitious commitments in EV procurement. And by supporting diverse people-powered coalitions, we mobilize communities to demand better health, jobs, and environmental justice.

Celebrating the launch of this exciting initiative to accelerate #ZeroEmissionVehicles ?
Really excited about the launch of the Global South Policymakers’ Exchange. The Global South Policymakers’ Exchange is a two-year program for engaging with policymakers from countries in the Global South – Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, India, Indonesia, Kenya, and South Africa – to build capacity in developing enabling policies and regulations to accelerate Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) adoption through market-based mechanisms in these regions. The exchange between emerging economies presents an excellent opportunity to recognize the benefits of creating market certainty and contextualizing some of the best practices in ZEV adoption practices to suit their regional perspectives. The objective of the exchange is to build a peer-to-peer network of Champions of Change, where policymakers can learn from each other's experience of leveraging research and data-driven insights for accelerating ZEV adoption. Additionally, it aims to serve as a forum to engage with countries and explore various challenges and learnings from their journey of rolling out market-based mechanisms. The exchange will also offer a platform to the policymakers to understand the basic research requirements, various policy designs, and tools for effective implementation and conflict resolution of ZEV policy and regulation.

The economic case for zero-emissions vehicles is only getting stronger ? New analysis from our partners at Coltura breaks down the cost savings for #ElectricVehicles in all 50 U.S. states. Key findings include: ? ?? The average American driver can save $943 annually by switching to an electric vehicle. ?? Washington State had the highest average fuel savings for EVs, at more than 10 cents per mile. ?? Drivers in the top 10% for mileage see a whopping $2,721 in average annual fuel savings. ? Today I had the privilege to launch in Jakarta the The International Council on Clean Transportation Roadmap to Zero for Indonesia. Electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe pollution, reduce fuel imports, reduce fuel subsidy disbursements, and are absolutely essential for the country to meet its net zero by 2060 goal. Indonesian policy makers can meet their net zero goals by setting a clear vision to transition to 100% zero-emission vehicle sales as soon as 2040 but no later than 2045. To deliver this transition, the government can learn from other major vehicle markets who have adopted three key policies: fiscal incentives to stimulate the purchase of electric vehicles, supply-side policies to require manufacturers to sell electric vehicles, and a charging infrastructure strategy that defines where, when, and how much infrastructure to deploy. A transition to 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2040-2045 would generate $490-$556 billion in avoided fuel subsidies through 2060. Indonesia would no longer rely on fuel imports as early as 2048, delivering vital energy security given ever declining domestic oil production. Rising global #ElectricVehicle sales are a sign of climate progress, yet there is much more to do to scale solutions -- Helen M. shares more on how climate philanthropy can drive impact this year:
“This is no time for retreat or hesitation. It is a moment for courage and collaboration.” Today, we stand at a climate crossroads with the stakes higher than ever. Despite meaningful progress, climate impacts are only intensifying, and emerging leadership gaps reinforce a vital truth: climate progress cannot rely solely on the actions of any one country or on government action alone. The urgency of the moment is now—the next five years are the most critical in this decisive decade for #ClimateAction. In her annual letter, Helen Mountford (Helen M.) reflects on the challenges and opportunities ahead, including how philanthropy must step up to bridge divides and catalyze trust, ambition, and systemic change. ?? "We think it's wrong to advise a customer coming in here today to buy an ICE [internal combustion engine] car, because the future is electric," says Ulf Tore Hekneby, CEO of Norway's leading car importer. ? This year, the Nordic nation of 5.5 million people is on track to shift entirely to zero-emission vehicles ?? ? ?? So, how did #Norway get to the verge of this historic moment? ? Christina Bu, secretary general of our partner Norsk elbilforening (Norwegian EV Association), recently took a BBC News business reporter for a zero-emissions tour around Oslo as she explained the decades of policy work that made switching to electric vehicles an easy choice for Norwegians. Momentum is growing in the transition to zero-emission road transportation, delivering massive benefits for climate, health, and the economy. For the first time, a study from our partners at The International Council on Clean Transportation projects that under current #ElectricVehicle policies and announced targets, global road transportation emissions could peak as soon as this year (2025). ? In a sign of accelerating progress, the report finds that EV policies over the past three years, along with proposed policies and targets, could curb 36 gigatons of CO2 emissions by 2050 – more than halfway to a level that is compatible with the Paris Agreement. Still, bold action and ambition is needed to keep global temperatures below the critical 2°C threshold. Read the full #Vision2050 update: https://lnkd.in/dg4YS4Az
