Congratulations to the Detroit Sports Commission’s Deputy Director, Marty Dobek! ???? Marty was selected as a Crain's Detroit Business 2024 40 under 40 Honoree! Marty played a pivotal role in the 2024 NFL Draft as the primary point person to the NFL on behalf of the local organizing committee. Marty was involved with the NFL Draft from the beginning, starting in 2017 during the bid process and continued the work after the DSC received the bid in 2022. Under Marty’s direction, the Sports Commission will continue to showcase Detroit as the best sports town as we prepare to host the 2027 NCC Men’s Final Four, 2028 Big Ten Women’s basketball tournament, and the 2028 NCAA Men’s Midwest Regional. This is yet another major win for our city in the collegiate event space, following our selection as the host of the 2028 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament at Little Caesars Arena ??? But that's not all! In 2027, Detroit will also host the NCAA Men’s Final Four at Ford Field continuing our legacy of hosting iconic sporting events. From the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball First/Second Rounds to the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships, and the 2024 NCAA Midwest Basketball Regional, Detroit consistently delivers unforgettable moments, proving why this city is where champions are made, and championships are played. The 2028 Division I Men's Basketball Midwest Regional will be co-hosted by the DSC, Oakland (MI) University, and University of Detroit Mercy. The 2024 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic (XPKC) drew over 8,000 fans for the season-opening, two-day high school football showcase held Aug. 29-30 at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University in Detroit. ? On Thursday in the game opener, Southgate Anderson clinched a last-minute victory against Trenton 27-26. In the evening game, Warren De La Salle defeated Davison, 21-3. On Friday, Belleville and Quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation's No. 1 recruit for the Class of 2025, came back in the final minutes of the game to beat Clarkston, 35-28. Detroit King closed out the weekend with a win against Cleveland Heights, 25-21. ? This year's showcase featured girls flag football for the first time, with the Birmingham Groves Falcons facing off against the Genesee Lady Wolves, with Groves emerging victorious, 32-6 ? Congratulations to all of this year's competing teams! We look forward to another great event in 2025 as we celebrate XPKC's 20th Anniversary!

The best of the best youth bowlers ?? from across the country took over 8 bowling centers in metro Detroit last month. More than 3,500 bowlers representing various states across the country competed in this year’s Junior Gold Championships over the course of a week. The tournament had six?aged based divisions – U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U15 Boys, U15 Girls, U18 Boys, U18 Girls— where a winner was named in each division. Congratulations to the winners!

The Cairns Cup CIC is a biannual match play golf tournament between USA and Europe designed to showcase the skills of adaptive golfers and encourage more people with disabilities to participate in the sport. We were honored to host this year’s tournament that featured 16 players from Team Europe and 16 from Team USA. Golfers competed at the Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township over the course of three days, where Team USA claimed the victory. Cherry Creek is the first club in the U.S. to host the Cairns Cup. ? The Cairns Cup was founded in 2019 in honor of disabled golfer, Billy Cairns. ? The inaugural 2022 Cairns Cup took place at the Shire London in Barnet, UK, where USA also took home the win. ?The next tournament will take place in 2026 at Celtic Manor Golf Club in Newport, Wales. We are proud to support an inclusive sporting culture in the area!

Last month, the Detroit Sports Commission hosted the 4th Annual Flagstar Detroit Sports Commission Golf Classic at the beautiful Oakland Hills Country Club. Community partners and supporters of the DSC participated in the golf classic in support of the Detroit Sports Commission's mission to improve the economy and image of metro Detroit and enrich the community's quality of life by attracting, creating, managing, and enhancing significant sporting and competitive events. Visit Detroit and the Detroit Sports Commission today announced that the 2024 NFL Draft generated a $213.6 million economic impact for the City of Detroit and region, including $161.3 million from visitors coming to Southeast Michigan.
