Deflux? injectable gel - the only FDA-approved injectable treatment of vesicoureteral reflux. VUR is a malformation of the urinary bladder that affects 1% of children. (1) Deflux gel has been in use for over two decades to treat children with VUR. (2) VUR occurs when the connection between the bladder and ureter is atypical. The lower part of the ureter tunnels through the muscle of the bladder. If this tunnel is too short or is located too much to one side, VUR may occur. These infections can lead to scarring and damage to the kidneys, which can lead to poor kidney function and high blood pressure later in life. Swift treatment helps minimize the risk of long-term kidney damage. The HA in Deflux treatment has been used in more than 50 million procedures worldwide (2), often as a dermal filler for wrinkle correction. Deflux treatment works well to stop VUR in children. Many children have success after one injection, while some may need more injection procedures. Deflux gel has been proven effective in up to 93% of children with VUR grades II-IV(3).
