"We as users should create our own best model — we have the data and compute to make it possible." At the recent dAGI Summit in Bangkok, Anna Kazlauskas, Co-founder of Vana, delivered a keynote: "Data as a New Asset Class." Here are the key takeaways: Foundation models are becoming a source of truth and economic power. Whoever controls AI decides what’s "true" and gains enormous economic influence. But there’s a problem: we’re hitting a data wall. Less than 0.1% of the internet is publicly scrapable, and platforms like Reddit and Stack Overflow are locking down APIs, turning their data into "walled gardens." Yet, Anna highlighted an opportunity: users still have access to their own data. Imagine 100M people exporting their data from platforms like Instagram or Messenger — this could create datasets 30x larger than those used by today’s foundation models. With tools like Rewind, recording user interactions could scale this to 300x, paving the way for user-owned AI. But it’s not just about quantity; data quality matters. Systems like Proof of Contribution can ensure data is valuable and traceable, protecting against manipulations like fake contributors. Anna emphasized the potential of DataDAOs: – Users pool data into liquidity pools. – They earn rewards when models are used and participate in governance, deciding who can access the models and under what rules. – Examples include Reddit DataDAO (140K users) and the 23andMe DAO, empowering people to take control of their genetic data. User-owned AI decentralizes power, putting control and ownership of models into the hands of users.

?? How can developers build scalable AI systems without relying on centralized infrastructure? Prakarsh Pratap, Head of Ecosystems at Spheron Network, tackled this question at our dAGI Summit in BKK, sharing actionable insights on decentralized compute. Ideal for teams building scalable AI systems with limited budgets. 4/ Privacy-Conscious AI Compute Applications include on-premise AI inference (e.g., hospitals) where data privacy is critical. No data leaves the premises, yet models can be trained and fine-tuned locally. Decentralized systems solve privacy challenges while maintaining efficiency. 5/ Tools and Scalability for Builders SDKs, CLI, and monitoring tools make decentralized compute networks easy to integrate. Bonus? Autonomous agents can self-scale dynamically based on workload demand. 6/ Decentralized compute prevents monopolization of AI infrastructure by powerful entities. It’s a step toward a more open and equitable future for AI and Web3 technologies.
