Between 20 and 24 of May last, EthniCity organized the first week devoted to Africa in the various BNP Paribas offices in Portugal! In what was a rather disruptive attitude on our side, we decided to not only have one event but to dedicate a whole week to celebrating this very rich and undervalued continent. We started the week with an online session led by Raquel Machaqueiro , anthropologist that currently works with the Slave Wrecks Project as a postdoctoral associate in the Anthropology Department, leading community engagement initiatives in Portugal about racism, cultural heritage, and diversity & inclusion. She took us on a journey through 19th century history, African heritage, the impacts of slavery in our landscape, and why is so important to talk about slavery today. On the second day we held this year's first literary meeting in our book club, "BOLK, Changing Wor(l. ds)", where we met to discuss the various books of African authors that we had read. Mid-week, we had an expressive African dance performance led by our very dear colleague Mariama Sani , artistically known as Sani Dubois. With 'Enraizar', her body is a tool for expression, and each movement tells a story, an emotion. We even had the chance to try out some moves that Mariama shared with us and the energy in the room was of contagious joy and acceptance. We finished the week with the first Get together of the network and it was so good to get to know in person the faces of those who support us and get real feedback about everything we're developing. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we also had the first African market in our offices in Lisbon and Oporto in partnership with Afrolink Paula Cardoso . At our disposal in our canteens, we had stalls selling beauty and home products, fashion accessories, clothes, candles and gastronomy. It was a success! We could not be happier to organize this event, and we would like to thank our Sponsors Olivier Perrain Arturo John and Rodrey Derand, our Head of DEI Luciana Peres and our Head of HR Sylvie Le Pottier. To BNP Paribas Lisbon and Oporto facilities team, our DEI colleagues Pedro Gustavo Veiga and Beatriz Almeida and to our speakers and partners for helping us to make this happen!

Last week, to celebrate Africa Day, we had the privilege of hosting Mohamed Gouled of IFC - International Finance Corporation for a fascinating discussion with Anita Ogbara on the role of development banks in addressing global development and climate challenges, especially in emerging markets. We also learned more about the progress in mobilizing private investment, particularly for #sustainable projects, and how BNP Paribas and IFC have successfully partnered on several recent, high-profile transactions. ? We continued these discussions over an incredible lunch featuring a variety of signature dishes highlighting the diversity of African cuisine. ? ???Celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity??? ? On the 21st of May, we joined hands and hearts to celebrate the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. It's a day to appreciate the richness of the world's cultures and the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. ? As we navigate through the diverse tapestry of traditions, languages, and experiences, let's remember that our differences are not barriers but bridges that connect us. Let's embrace diversity as our strength, and let it fuel collaboration, creativity, and growth in our personal and professional lives. ? At CulturALL by BNP Paribas – a global employee network made up of various local BNP Paribas networks - we are committed to learning about other cultures, respecting different perspectives, and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. Together, we can build a world where cultural diversity is celebrated for the wealth of ideas and possibilities it brings. ? Our goal is to raise awareness among all employees on discrimination and barriers affecting employees of ethnocultural diversity. Therefore, our most popular activity is the InfluenceALL series, when we bring to the stage committed, empowered and successful leaders with diverse background to share insights on their professional career, path, diversity, and inclusion journey, and how they are making a difference in building a more diverse, fair, and inclusive workplace. ? #WorldDayForCulturalDiversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #CulturalDialogue #SustainableDevelopment ?
