Rob Samuels likes to say, “Bourbon is nature, distilled." His grandparents founded Maker's Mark Distillery more than seventy years ago, now he is bringing the family traditions of being a good steward of the land and giving back to nature, to new heights. By becoming a founding member of the 100 Million Acres campaign, they have made the incredible commitment to work towards 100% of their acres being certified regenerative by the end of this year. At Star Hill Farm, home to the Maker’s Mark distillery, they know that maximizing flavor starts with the soil. Working with Regenified?, they utilized the practice and outcome-based land verification and product certification program, to shape the future of regenerative spirits. Maker's Mark is now the first distillery in the world to achieve Regenified Tier 3 Certification! To learn more about the Maker’s Mark commitment to regeneration and the Regenified certification, visit 100millionacres.org and take the pledge yourself – for the soil, for our health, and for the planet. Behind the scenes (part 2) in Australia for our latest soil documentary about regenerative agriculture! In this clip, Gabe Brown shares insight of the living ecosystem that regenerative and soil health practices restores on farms and ranches. After sitting down with Gabe in New South Wales, director Josh Tickell met a soil science team on a ranch in transition, to compare results with Gabe's experience. Josh texted a video to show him the soil (watch the whole video to see it). Watch part 1 to see more of the interview and Gabe consulting with farmers. He also taught an on-farm workshop, and spoke at the Wilmot Field Days (at Wilmot Cattle Co) - all with the Big Picture Ranch filmmaking team in tow. Also: Rebecca Tickell & their kids interviewed Gabe & others in the rural outback! You can see some of those moments in our recent photo post. We hope Australia will continue it's journey of exploring and implementing regeneration. The positive cascade will be incredible to see! *This video is bts from Groundwell, the third film (in production). Save the date to watch the first two films of the trilogy: Kiss the Ground and Common Ground (Movie), on Amazon Prime Video, April 22. Behind the scenes in Australia for the making of "Groundswell" with directors Rebecca Tickell and Josh Tickell. They reconnected with Gabe Brown in New South Wales as he consulted with farmers, shared on-farm regenerative practices, and spoke at the Wilmot Field Days, one of the largest on-farm field days in the country. They also went on location into the rural Outback, with their children Athena & Jedi interviewing Gabe to share soil health and regenerative agriculture from a youth point of view. Paul Girrawah House, also featured in Groundswell, painted ochre on their foreheads—a sacred act in Aboriginal tradition that signifies truth-speaking. He then shared the deep wisdom of Aboriginal agriculture, explaining how these ancestral practices honor and sustain the land. 'Groundswell' (in production) is the third soil documentary from Big Picture Ranch, showcasing the global impact of regeneration! The first two films will be streaming on Prime Video starting April 22 (Earth Day). Josh Tickell is down under filming the last installment of the 'Ground' trilogy. While there, he ran into Gabe Brown.
If you’ve ever walked barefoot on a hot summer day, you’ve felt it. The burning asphalt, the dry, cracked soil, the places where the earth feels lifeless beneath your feet. Now step onto a grassy field, a patch of thriving land, a shaded forest floor. There, the earth is cool. It’s alive. That difference—the contrast between bare, lifeless dirt and rich soil covered in thriving plant life—is the key to our future. And yet, it’s something humans have largely ignored. There is Hidden Key to Cooling the Planet is so Simple, We’ve Missed It. Read more on my Substack https://lnkd.in/e3DbDpGt

How is regenerative agriculture different than conventional, or even organic, and why is regenerative the best way forward? Conventional agriculture's heavy usage of toxic chemicals and a disregard for soil health is degrading our lands and destroying the basis of our livelihoods – our soils. Conventional fails to recognize and respect biodiversity: the welfare of animals, our planet, and us as people. Organic agriculture offers a solution, but it doesn’t go far enough. While studies indicate that overall, organic farms still have superior soil health metrics to their chemical industrial counterparts, not all acreage in the United States under USDA Organic Agriculture receives the same soil health benefits, and environmental outcomes are not measured. To reliably build soil health, reach America’s climate goals, and create a healthier and more resilient food system, a significant portion of America’s crop and range land must be rapidly transitioned to regenerative agriculture. Share this graphic and learn more at: https://lnkd.in/eGAFqDSy By restoring carbon, water, and nutrient cycles, regenerative agriculture enhances soil health, water and air quality, and improves biodiversity, resilience, and economic outcomes. It is the only system of agriculture that focuses on restoring the health of the whole ecosystem, from the worms and the bees to cows and the trees. Today, the best possible combination for regeneration and chemical free agriculture is a combination of both regenerative and organic principles and practices. To find farms and brands that meet these standards, visit 100millionacres.org for tools and resources, and look for options with the Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC) seal, in your local stores. #regenerativeagriculture #farming #OrganicFarming #agriculture #biodiversity
