Global Cyber Alliance's Director of Common Good Initiatives, Kayle Giroud, perfectly summed up yesterday's event in London. Huge thanks to the entire Common Good Cyber secretariat for moving us one step closer to our goal of securing the Internet by funding the #nonprofit organizations that work for everyone's #cybersecurity. Also, big thanks to CREST for sponsoring part of the event and the dinner afterwards!
Bridging the Gap event was a big success! Huge thanks to Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for hosting and Rob Black for being an incredible MC! ????Our fireside chat moderated by Francesca Bosco highlighted that cyber attacks aren’t just technical—they create real stress and anxiety among people (as in actual human people!) ??In Panel I moderated by Chris Gibson, Tod Eberle reminded us “there’s no one-size-fits-all†in #cybersecurity—NGOs need actionable intel, scale, and trust. Jaya Baloo emphasized the basics: beyond bad actors, “the non-goodâ€â€”users not following best practices— pose risks. ?? Panel II moderated by J. Michael Daniel underscored high-risk actors’ struggles in accessing tools. They stressed the need for secure-by-design, context-driven tools and reminded us that most NGOs are very small—how do we make security work for them? ??♀?We moved the discussions towards the defenders. The Common Good Cyber mapping showed that 49% of current solutions deployed in the public interest are maintained by nonprofits. These defenders fill in the gaps of market failures and struggle to keep the lights on. OktavÃa Hrund Guerúnar Jóns putted it bluntly: “It’s not worth the hassle to be a nonprofit.†????Between the dismemberment of USAID, the predominance of short-term, project-based funding, donor’s programs shifts and interest in the latest shiny tools, and the geopolitics, it is impossible for cybersecurity nonprofits to keep their ongoing operations, meet growing demands for assistance and adapt to new threats. ??Our interactive session and Panel III moderated by Philip Reitinger brought these challenges to life, helping us explore solutions at scale. ?? The event ended with a presentation of the future mechanism of the Common Good Cyber Fund and a call to action to attendees to share feedback and pledge support within a month so we can move into implementation! We then were hosted by CREST and Nick Benson for a nice dinner. ?? Excited to continue this work with Common Good Cyber! I feel particularly lucky for the support and incredible people working on this project. — Even more fortunate to have seen two of my favourite cyber ladies Megan S. and Francesca Bosco!! I have too many thank you to distribute for the support we got in making this event a success! You know who you are ??

Common Good Cyber转å‘了
It’s great to be back in the wonderful Locarno rooms at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office here for the launch of the Common Good Cyber Fund and exploring the collective efforts we can do to provide essential support to those individuals who are deemed high risk and at threat of cyber intrusion and persecution from a range of hostile threat actors. Too often it is easy to talk about cyber intrusion in the abstract and generic sense but hearing from individuals who have experienced being targeted and “harassed†(seems an understatement) by threat actors acting on behalf of nation states brings to life the invasive nature and violation of their human rights when they are compromised through cyber means… truly victims in the fullest sense of the term. Looking forward to helping shape discussions and identify common collective efforts that can be done to support the non profit communities working on the front line here, provide access to robust local support and assistance to aid resilience in civil society and enhance capacity building for those conducting specialist threat reporting in these areas. As Jonathan Allen, the FCDO’s Director General for Defence and Intelligence, highlighted in his keynote this depends on mutual respect to enable collaboration between nation states, civil society and non profits and a clear common mission which is at the heart of the Common Good Cyber initiative and part of the UK’s drive to act and be a global leader acting responsibly in cyberspace and being involved in initiatives such as this and the Pall Mall Process. It is great to see a collection of experts and subject matter experts here from across nation states, civil society and major industry players come together to address these issues and make an impact.
