Attention current and soon-to-be aviation forecasters! Learn about the impact of low-level wind shear (LLWS) and low-level turbulence (LLT) on aviation functions within the US Government Federal Aviation Administration National Airspace System (NAS)?in the latest COMET MetEd aviation weather lesson, "Aviation Hazards: Low-level Wind Shear & Low-level Turbulence." This lesson will enable you to understand the impact of LLWS/LLT on the NAS, along with the breadth and depth of collaborative work required to provide forecast product continuity and decision support services. #aviation #training #weather ?? Bom dia! We had a great time at the recent European Conference on e-Learning at the Universidade Portucalense in Porto, Portugal! There are so many fascinating e-learning innovations in the works, and we’re inspired by this truly exciting time for online education and training. Our Educational Designer Keliann LaConte presented our own innovations as a finalist in the 10th e-Learning Excellence Awards with our paper, “Simulating the Complex Science Behind Environmental Hazards Like Post-wildfire Debris Flows.” She also presented a poster, “Using e-Learning to Increase Proficiency in Communicating Climate Impacts” (a subject we know a thing or two about). For those curious about our paper and the other conference papers, you can purchase the anthology here: https://lnkd.in/gTFmjuhJ #meteorology #weather #training #development #innovation

Scientists with the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) use innovative technologies ??? to monitor and forecast climate and weather shocks that often play a significant role in food emergencies. Our agroclimatology data – which include remote sensing imagery, historical rainfall ??? totals, climate change analysis, forecasts, and an understanding of climate drivers in the countries and regions ?? we monitor – are critical components of our knowledge base. Building weather, water, and climate expertise is our passion, so when we learn about our impact from our partners, we can’t help but celebrate! The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration National Geodetic Survey (NGS) recently shared that the NGS library of 12 educational videos we co-created have reached over 500,000 views on the COMET YouTube channel! Thanks for sharing this wonderful milestone with us! ???? NGS video library: https://lnkd.in/dASR-5WP ???? ?? Our 3D-Printed Automatic Weather Stations (3D-PAWS) turned 10 this year! ?? Learn about the origins and incredible impact of this initiative in our latest blog post. We’re thrilled that this automatic weather station, first beta tested by Paul Kucera and Martin Steinson in 2014, has grown to over 250 3D-PAWS across 17 countries (and counting!) strong. A big thanks to USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance for supporting this initiative, and to our partners for working with us to strengthen weather resiliency for communities around the world.? #capacitydevelopment #3dprinting #weather #resiliency?? ???? A huge thanks to the amazing NSF NCAR Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) Research Aviation Facility (RAF) team for hosting part of the COMET Fall 2024 Retreat! We loved the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of an atmospheric research aircraft, as seen here with COMET Director Elizabeth Mulvihill (Page), and to learn about RAF’s vital work to advance research in the Earth system sciences. Our team spent the week brainstorming and collaborating on innovative approaches to advance #education, training, and capacity building. We’re so excited to put these ideas into action as we?continue building? #weather, water, and #climate expertise together! #capacitybuilding #atmosphericresearch #weather
