Join us for a special edition of Saturday Science! Our annual Science and the City event brings community organizations from all over the city! Bronx Children’s Museum, New York Aquarium, NYC Urban Park Rangers, and many more will join the fun as we celebrate Earth Day. Saturday Science is a free monthly event for kids of all ages to explore the workings of the brain through hands-on activities and unique scientific resources. https://lnkd.in/emXZ5xJi #zuckermanbrain #communityevents

A Columbia University researcher describes something amazing, like a memory forming. Then an improv group brings the science to life, hilariously. This is The Lab, started in her spare time by Rajyashree Sen, with Columbia University Neuroscience Outreach (CUNO) & Magnet Theater. Next show 4/25! https://lnkd.in/eTTNUpR7. Supported by Research!America: Discovery. Innovation. Health.

How does the brain respond to art? In a new PNAS study, by showing paintings to people while scanning their brains, Daphna Shohamy (Columbia University), Celia Durkin (University of Minnesota) and colleagues shed light on this question and provide a scientific test of a longstanding idea in art theory. 🌠 We're thrilled to announce our latest Hypothesis Fund awardees and their groundbreaking projects! From optimizing enzymes, to protein sequencing, and membrane 'functional hotspots', each of these projects holds the potential to be transformative for diverse fields of science! 🌟 By introducing new 'building blocks' to protein synthesis, Awardee Ahmed Badran aims to discover new functions in a key enzyme in photosynthesis, RuBisCO. His work may be key to combatting #climatechange 🌎. 🌟 Awardee Chi-Min Ho tackles the complex challenges of protein sequencing by leveraging molecular machinery made by microbes. Her work could revolutionize how we study protein function and structure, and our understanding of biology. 🌟 With a 'molecular scalpel' to 'biopsy' membrane sites where cells and organoids make contact, Awardee moitrayee bhattacharyya's research may reveal new insights into cellular processes and the development of neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS. Recognition to Hypothesis Fund Scouts Yamuna Krishnan and Ellen Yeh for recommending these innovative research projects! Learn more about all of our awardees and their projects: bit.ly/HFAwardees.
