It was so great connecting with learning and development leaders at the CLO Exchange in San Diego last week. I had the honor of co-facilitating a session with Trish Vassar, PhD, VP of Global Learning and Development for the Coca Cola Company, on measuring the long-term impact of learning strategies. It was a great conversation where L&D leaders shared the great work they are doing in this space and provided actionable feedback to each other to improve their ability to more effectively connect the dots between learning programs and the success of their organizations. Here are some key insights from our conversation: 1. It is important to define what we mean by long-term impact. What are the actual long-term outcomes that we should help drive through learning strategies? 2. We need to be methodical and intentional about understanding how our strategies impact long term outcomes.?How do our programs and initiatives impact short, medium, and long term outcomes? What is our theory of change??How do long term outcomes inform our program design? 3. It might be difficult to ascertain the impact on some long-term term outcomes and the type of analysis needed might not be possible to do or "worth the squeeze" at this time due to current capabilities, resources, and appetite. Therefore, clearly understand what outcomes are most important to the organization and determine the best way to measure impact based on your capabilities and constraints. 4. This process is a journey, which often requires upskilling and a mindset change within our teams. What KSAOs are needed within our team to measure long-term impact? I.e., evidence based approaches for transfer of learning, research methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative), creating data analysis plans, data analysis, etc... How can we help our teams incorporate long term impact measurement from design to implementation? We do great work and honing our ability to measure long term impact can help us understand how to improve our learning programs for the benefit of our teams and organizations. Thank you all for a great conversation! Special thanks to Trish Vassar, PhD for being an amazing partner. Hope to continue this conversation with our L&D and HR community.

Future-Focused Learning Leadership & Business Impact

Just wrapped up an incredible few days at CLO Exchange in San Diego! It was an exclusive gathering of learning leaders sharing insights, challenges, and solutions for the future of L&D. Three days filled with some of the best conversations I’ve had in a while! A few themes stood out loud and clear: ?? AI in L&D: The conversation has moved past “if” and into “how” especially in regulated industries like cybersecurity, SaaS, healthcare, and insurance. Thoughtful implementation is key. ?? Skill building & upskilling: Organizations are doubling down on human-first approaches to skill journeys, skill mapping, and workforce development. The goal? Future-proofing talent. ?? Doing more with less: Many teams are navigating smaller budgets, leaner teams, and increasing business expectations. Efficiency and impact are the name of the game. ?? Data, data, and more data: Reporting, analytics, dashboards, and proving ROI are now mission-critical for L&D. The focus is on embedding data into business cases to drive investment and show direct business impact. I’m leaving with a lot of inspiration to take back to my team—especially around internal marketing, data fluency, globalization, and strategic KPIs to reduce churn. More on that soon! Huge thanks to the incredible thought partners I met along the way. These conversations were deep, insightful, and actionable. Looking forward to keeping them going! #LearningAndDevelopment #CLOExchange #CorporateLearning #LAndDLeadership #AIinLAndD #Upskilling #FutureOfWork #DataDrivenLearning

Just wrapped up an incredible week in San Diego at the CLO Exchange with Corporate Learning Network! This event always leaves us energized by the exciting innovations in L&D and the opportunity to connect with both new and longtime clients—including reconnecting with Stacy Hubiak at Organon, who we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past few months. ? A highlight of the week was our President, Jim Guilkey, delivering a powerful keynote on the critical role of instructional design, especially as emerging technologies continue to reshape the learning landscape. ? Thank you, CLN, for another fantastic conference! Looking forward to what’s ahead. #LearningConference #Learning #Training #LearningandDevelopment #LearningDesign #InstructionalDesign #LearningStrategy #TrainingStrategy #LearningPrograms #CustomizedLearningPrograms #Upskilling #Reskilling #Onboarding #LeadershipTraining #SalesTraining #LeadershipDevelopment

Finally (!) got to meet Vincent Rama (and the team around the CLO Exchange and Corporate Learning Network) in person this weekend. The event was held at a fantastic venue in sunny San Diego, featuring a full and exciting program. It brought together senior executives from HR, Talent, and L&D, sparking a series of great and honest conversations, and insights. And it's not often that an event in February requires shades. ??

Leadership & Change Expert | People, Systems & Growth ??

?? That’s a Wrap… and a New Beginning! The past few days have been filled with insightful conversations on "Igniting the New Era of Learning" with learning leaders at the CLO Exchange. ?? Leveraging AI – Start by identifying how employees already use AI, build on existing tools, and use a phased approach. And of course, compliance! ?? ?? Mapping skills – Standardize foundational, technical, and leadership skills per role to drive clarity, development, and career growth. ?? Aligning learning with business outcomes – Connect initiatives, outcomes, and metrics directly to business impact. Use stories to illustrate success. ?? Commitment to inclusion – DEI isn’t optional; it’s a business imperative that fuels performance, innovation, and retention. Plus, it’s the right thing to do. ?? Designing and marketing learning effectively – Instructional design matters. So does how we position learning to engage the right audiences. ?? It was a privilege to be part of these discussions. As providers, our role is to support you, the people driving change. It starts and ends with you. --- This also marks the beginning of my journey with New Level Work! Passionate about I/O psych, organizational behavior, and adaptive leadership, I’m excited to help companies accelerate leadership development through AI and human-led coaching & training. Grateful for the trust, Tim Evans and Stephane Panier! ?? #CLOExchange #FutureofWork #LeadershipDevelopment #Coaching #Culture #Learning

Managing Director Custom Programs, Head of Executive Coaching, Michigan Ross Executive Education

Enjoyed presenting the power of storytelling at CLO Exchange in San Diego with Ross alumni Jerry Won & Jen Hollingsworth, and my Ross EE colleagues Sara Bozer and Shaun Whitehouse. Capturing and sharing our stories is an example of leadership reflective practice, the process of leadership growth and development. Stories create energy and bonds of connection by letting our guard down and being vulnerable. So we began by being curious, and asking each other, "What's your story?" We discovered that when we encourage others to tell their stories, we uncover the hidden worth and wisdom of the people all around us. As Jerry Won pointed out, storytelling is an act of service to others, creating environments where it's safe to be real with each other -- environments of high trust -- where learning takes place. Jen told her story of starting with nothing, taking a big leap, and eventually reaching the C-Suite. The metaphor of the Petoskey Stone (thanks Nate Kline) expresses that real life is full of difficult situations that grind and polish us, yet it's those very experiences that reveal what's beautiful inside, and that offer hope to others. #RossEE #GoBlue

Global Director – Revenue Enablement | AI Implementation | Transformational Leadership | Sales Strategy | People Enablement | Revenue Growth

Just wrapped up my time at the CLO Exchange, and as I was heading out, someone asked me what I’d say to my peers in #LearningAndDevelopment and #SalesEnablement about the experience. One word: #Edifying. I had already thought about that before but, in true #ADHD fashion, I couldn’t quite articulate it in the moment. But now that I’ve had a chance to reflect—edifying is exactly what it was. Conferences like these give us the opportunity to connect, share, and grow alongside like-minded professionals. If you ever get the chance to attend, take it. The perspectives, conversations, and collaborations are worth it. Here’s to the future of this Exchange—let’s see if I can make it out to another city soon!
