November is Alzheimer's Awareness Month. One in every six people around the globe has a neurological disease such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke or epilepsy. While the medical community has learned to manage some symptoms of brain disorders, it remains challenging to predict who will become sick or how to cure – or even stop the progression of – these diseases once they are diagnosed. That's why in 2022, the Cleveland Clinic Brain study was launched with the support of philanthropy. Led by?Andre Machado, MD, PhD, and?Imad Najm, MD, of Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute, the study - which is the largest clinical study ever for brain disease – is collecting data from up to 200,000 neurologically healthy individuals over a 20-year period to identify brain disease biomarkers and targets for preventing and curing neurological disorders. The recent 2024 Innovation Challenge, in partnership with Cleveland Clinic Philanthropy, showcased groundbreaking healthcare innovations and delivered an engaging experience for attendees! Three Cleveland Clinic innovators presented their transformative ideas for a chance to win a $100,000 grant, courtesy of Jones Day, to bring their projects to life. From advanced heart valve repair to new approaches for preventing infections and transforming weight loss, these ideas have the potential to reshape healthcare. We're thrilled to share that Cleveland Clinic has received $30 million in gifts from the Bailey-Haslam family. Their generosity will support and expand cardiovascular genetics research by establishing the Haslam Family Section for Cardiovascular Genetics. The gift will also help provide genetic testing for family members of any patient at Cleveland Clinic diagnosed with a inherited heart condition.
