Did you know the Midwest Pediatric Device Consortium (MPDC) is a newly formed FDA-funded consortium led by Nationwide Children's Hospital, The Ohio State University State University, Cincinnati Children's, and Cleveland Clinic Children’s, launched to utilize the resources of the Midwest to advance pediatric device development across the country? This fall’s first #MPDC Showcase Event included a panel discussion with our team member JD Friedland, Managing Partner, Cleveland Clinic Ventures, covering the commercialization of pediatric medical device solutions, featuring representatives from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, AngelEye Health, and OrthoPediatrics; moderated by Project Medtech. The panel addressed critical topics such as venture funding, market adoption, and the strategic importance of hospital systems in the success of pediatric devices. This program provides specific funding for devices and resources for inventors to advance their projects. The FDA awarded a $6.95 million grant to the collaboration to establish the MPDC and to provide funding, resources, networking, clinical trial infrastructure, a commitment to under-served populations, real-world evidence, and collaboration with other national PDCs.
