In Nicole Mills’s Beginning French class at Harvard University, she wanted students to vividly imagine life in Paris. So she began experimenting with VR and AI to deepen their immersion in French language and culture. Students explore the lives of four Parisians through VR characters, including Lee, an AI-powered writing companion. Throughout the semester, AI Lee guides students as they craft memoirs for their own fictional Parisian characters — giving them interactive opportunities to practice reading, writing, listening to, and speaking French along the way.
