Our Coalition received two special recognitions at this week's virtual U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Clean Cities Coordinator Training Workshop. The first was recognition of Association of Central Oklahoma Governments and INDIAN NATIONS COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS foundational work in support of Oklahoma's fast growing #EV charging network. ?? Exciting Milestone: RECHARGE-OK Kickoff Event ?? I’m thrilled to share that we successfully hosted the RECHARGE-OK kickoff event this Wednesday! A huge thank you to NSF Program Directors @ David Corman and @ Vishal Sharma and our Hudson College of Public Health Dean Dale Bratzler for delivering the opening remarks to strength our partnerships with our civic collaborators. I also want to express the deepest appreciation to our civic partners, collaborators, and stakeholders for your invaluable contributions, insights, and energy. Special thanks to Shawnee OK Public Schools for providing the electric school bus to our OUHSC campus and offering all the civic partners a memorable e-bus tour. Together, we’re taking important steps toward integrating Electric School Buses (ESBs) into Oklahoma's energy grids and building community resilience. ??Happy National Drive Electric Week! It was a treat to be at the Oklahoma Ragatta Festival ??♂?in OKC to celebrate with Eric W. Pollard and David Frick, AICP from Central Oklahoma Clean Cities and WRI Electric School Bus Initiative colleague Brittany Barrett, MBA. We checked out the frunk of the new electric Chevrolet Silverado and heard about new #V2X projects ??from Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company including a collaboration with Dr. Hongwan Li at University of Oklahoma and Shawnee OK Public Schools to use electric school buses ?? to enhance resilency during tornados ???and other storms. ?? Exciting News! ?? I am thrilled to announce that my first NSF proposal, RECHARGE-OK, has been funded! ?? This project is focused on integrating Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology with electric school buses to strengthen community resilience in Oklahoma in the face of climate and environmental challenges. Our kickoff event will take place on October 2nd at the Ou Hudson College Of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences, and we’ll be collaborating with OGE Energy Corp. and Shawnee OK Public Schools, and joined by an incredible group of stakeholders, including OU, OSU, the IC Bus, Navistar Inc, ACOG, INCOG (Indian Nations Council of Governments), Gordon Cooper Technology Center, and the City of OKC, and among others. I love learning about the numerous opportunities our state has for creating and training workforce and offering the next generation opportunities to forge a lasting and rewarding career. Joshua M. and I had the chance to visit the OCCC Automotive Technology program thanks to John Claybon. This is a state of the art program for automotive technicians that is looking to the future and training for a variety of automotive applications including internal combustion engines, EV, H2, and CNG. They have partnerships with OEM’s and dealers to help their students train with the latest vehicles, get on the job training with dealers while also attending school, and a pathway to a full time job directly upon completion of the program. Students can also acquire the latest OEM certifications. This is an incredible school to launch a career in the automotive industry, right here in Oklahoma City.
