I appreciated the opportunity to talk about this important and growing challenge to states. This is the kind of work the Center for Intergovernmental Partnerships was created to focus on.
Nancy Y. Augustine, PhD of the National Academy of Public Administration outlined how disaster-related tax filing extensions can disrupt state revenue and budget cycles, what the IRS should know about the impact of extensions on states, and what changes could ease the challenges for states. Joe Stephenshaw of California discussed their experience from 2023 including the impact on budget planning, revenue forecasting, and tax administration. #NASBO #IRS #TaxExtension

#JustReleased: The Academy's Intergovernmental Standing Panel has just released a report on the intergovernmental approaches to homelessness. The authors, led by Academy Fellows Richard Callahan and Steve Redburn, engaged in depth with people working with the practical administrative challenges homelessness presents to communities nationwide and only then developed tentative ideas for addressing those challenges. #Read the report here: https://bit.ly/4gkXQXe Additionally, listen to the newest episode of the #ManagementMatters podcast, where Richard and Katherine Willoughby discuss the lessons learned from the report. Listen here: https://bit.ly/3zd1zVY We also want to give a special shoutout to the Center for Intergovernmental Partnerships' Brad Riley, Ed.M, MPPA, and Lauren Boczkowski for their assistance in creating this report.
