#JustReleased: The Academy's Intergovernmental Standing Panel has just released a report on the intergovernmental approaches to homelessness. There appears to be a widespread impression that responses to the threats of climate change are exclusively a federal problem. But a recently released report from the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA), points out that the feds aren’t the only level of government that must be involved in meaningful solutions. As Barrett and Greene Inc. write in a new Management Update, "Adapting infrastructure to climate change is fundamentally a local government issue because the potential impact is site-specific, local governments are primary responders to their communities' needs, and local governments have authority over land use." The NAPA report spells out a number of ways in states can help their localities to overcome the challenges confronted by localities who are attempting to combat climate change, including: supporting local investment; building local capacity; easing administrative burdens, and more. As climate change continues to impact infrastructure, public health, and economies, adapting to it will require significant financial investment and collaboration.
