Get a glimpse at the first Cat? MD6250 drill commissioned in 2025, delivered to a coal site in Australia. This is the first of more than a dozen Cat drills that will be commissioned across the Hunter Valley. The MD6250 rotary blasthole drill is built from the ground up with 100% Cat parts and will provide the site with the accurate, reliable performance they need to drill stable holes that are conducive for blasting and material fragmentation. 1930s: OUR FIRST ENERGY TRANSITION The first Cat? diesel engine, the D9900, was introduced in 1931 and represents Caterpillar’s earliest energy transition – going from gasoline power to diesel power. It was designed for the Cat Sixty Dozer and was a source of power for a variety of industries—from marine to locomotive. The D9900 also established itself as a leader in diesel power for U.S. coal mining applications, like the example below from a 1933 coal stripping job in Excelsior, PA.
